HYPERCASE  DM-01

This build is pretty well under way, So i will post a few current work log pics and then play catch up :) Don't worry there's still a ton of modding left.

First off a big thanks to Mwave  for jumping on board and supporting this build with some much needed hardware.

IMG_20200510_172814-L.jpg

A quick back story.

I wanted a specific case and when it became obvious that the extreme cost and getting it sent from OS was proving to be a big fail i decided to just make what i wanted myself.

Hypercase  will be scratch made from Plex. No CNC or LASER work or fancy CAD programs or drawings..... just whats in my head and my hands. I'm sure some of you can relate to that last part :P

NO water cooling i'm having alot more fun nowadays with air coolers   "it's still cool to air cool" !

Currently the mod is at the final stages

IMG_20200805_163621-L.jpg

So how did we get here ?

It started with  4 basic parts..

A base section

Just a single cut and bent piece of plex

IMG_20200307_191022-L.jpg

A matching top section.

This was made from 3 parts ,  2 x bent sides and a single flat top. Then reinforce with inner braces

IMG_20200307_191236-L.jpg

IMG_20200304_194440-L.jpg

Next was to make the spine.  This was made from much thicker plex and will be triple layered later to add more strength and design.

IMG_20200309_194636-L.jpg

The 4th part was the motherboard tray.  This will be a suspended type and will be adjustable :)

Cheers jaslion tyvm  :)

Next was to play dress ups and add some layered effect to add 3d depth to the parts,

For the main spine there will be a front side and back side to work with.  The back side will house the PSU the front will be just for looks.

A pretty basic cut out is made this will be glued onto the back.

IMG_20200314_140318-L.jpg

IMG_20200314_140614-L.jpg

A bracket to house the PSU is made and glued into place.

IMG_20200314_150633-L.jpg

For the front side  just a simple pattern is added.... for now

IMG_20200315_154913-L.jpg

IMG_20200315_160502-L.jpg

Next to get some treatment is the mother board tray. This gets a simple pattern with some SSD cutouts

All the edges of these layered parts are angle routed for a smoother join and look.

IMG_20200314_151739-L.jpg

IMG_20200314_151752-L.jpg

The top section get some extra attention.

IMG_20200326_165021-L.jpg

IMG_20200326_165142-L.jpg

A front io plate is added and a panel from a fractal case was salvaged

IMG_20200326_173418-L.jpg

IMG_20200326_180216-L.jpg

IMG_20200326_181732-L.jpg

Then it was time for a hell of a lot of sanding and bondo work.

IMG_20200328_205856-L.jpg

IMG_20200328_205700-L.jpg

Some base love too!

The original plan was to passive cool, but i like fans.. so a fan duct was knocked up!

IMG_20200429_122238-L.jpg

The other side is a little different to help direct air flow to the PSU

IMG_20200429_122244-L.jpg

Gluing some cutouts to the sides adds some extra shape

'Tis looking rather striking I must say.

Exceptionally clean looking for something that's not been precision cut!

wow this is what we are talking about, proper custom engineering and fabrication.

so many build logs are about people just buying expensive components and just assembling the build, they usually get all the attention and glory, but it should be projects and builds like this one that should have all the brownie points.

i made a few custom build cases, and people don't seem interested in a project unless it has the most expensive hardware,,

this is a skill to be able to work with plastic like you have.

looking forward to more of this build.

Cheers Frayia tyvm :D  I have to agree with you 100%  👍 there's still a few strong communities for case modding , thank god for Bittech !

I'll shut up and keep posting :D

After many hours of work all the parts are under highfill and primer. They will sit like this for the next few weeks for all the paint to settle and then be sanded again before the final undercoat then paint then clear is applied.

IMG_20200524_185054-L.jpg

A quick re assemble before moving onto the next stage :) with a few monochrome shots thrown in.

  • 4 weeks later...

Almost done with this panel.. Fill a few ruff spots with spot putty a rub and final primer.

First off was to get some primer down.

[IMG] [IMG]

[IMG] [IMG]

Not sure what to call these things, but hopefully they look cool! i'll show the inspiration for adding these soon.

[IMG] [IMG]

A lot more sanding some more primer and a few coats of spray putty.

[IMG] [IMG]

Couple of small updates and new additions :)

I knocked this up in the add break, a lil cover for the PSU and a place to hide some cable.

[IMG] [IMG]

Then it was time for some mesh modding

[IMG] [IMG]

A bit of primer and spray putty put em together for a look see and test fit

[IMG] [IMG]

[IMG] [IMG]

Another Update is the inclusion of an internal stat's screen.

We're on the home stretch now ! ..... well until i change my mind again :p

Yesterday was all the boring stuff..... more sanding and spot putty work... but today was a bit more fun as i finally get to throw down some colour :D

First the boring! Kinda like running around putting out all the little spot fires.

Some final prep work to the PSU cover, Filling in all the plex joins and fixing a few small dimples.

[IMG] [IMG]

It's a lotta extra work, but the end result will be worth it.

Not sure if any one noticed this before but i changed the front. Decided to carry the lines thru to the bottom of the panel for a cleaner sharper look.

This added a couple of extra days work... but i think it's worth the time.

[IMG] [IMG]

Then finish off the bracket for the Galaxy II Stats screen :) It's a simple spring type clip mod, that just holds the phone snug in place.

[IMG] [IMG]

A hell of a lot more wet rubbing and more spot fires and all the parts under base coat (silver)

A day later....just when you thought all the wet rubbing was over ..... It's more wet rubbing again....

[IMG] [IMG]

Why sand every coat? To get the paint as flat as poss.... that is what gives the mirror finish @ the very end.

[IMG] [IMG]

Fun Time :D First a few coats of the gun metal and then on goes the 2K clear coat.

[IMG] [IMG]

Lets do a few more :)

[IMG] [IMG]

[IMG] [IMG]

Just for giggles! what could have been!!!!!

After laying down some colour and some clear then letting it dry over night. The psu cover gets a quick light sand. This is to get the clear as flat as poss for a quick buff.
Normally i'd let this sit for a week to let the clear go rock hard. But i wanted to see what sort of mirror finish i could get now.

Looking promising,

If i can get the whole case to look this good i'll be a happy camper.

Happy with that i can get the last 3 sections under colour.

A bit more prep work for the front panel and then some colour and clear cloat.

[IMG] [IMG]

Thought i'd take a sneaky peek @ how the black side vents would contrast!

Then move onto some big stuff ! :p remember these ?

That's pretty much all the players on the park now... I still need to wet sand and clear coat the top and back panels... prolly thru the week.

Then i can finally start thinking about adding some hardware.
