x570/ryzen 3700x nothing

Go to solution Solved by x9x9x9x9x9,

Turns out I am a moron. I was connecting everything to what looked like the JFP1 pins but I was connecting them to JCOM1. Why would they put identical connectors like that so close together and then not have them labeled super well is beyond me but its my fault for being an idiot. Glad I got it solved.

I am trying to build a ryzen 7 3700x on a msi x570 gaming pro mobo. I got everything hooked up but when I try to power it up I get nothing at all. The debug leds don't come on, the PSU lights don't come on, nothing. I tested the PSU on another system and it worked just fine. This mobo and CPU is brand new so I don't know if I missed something but it all looks good.

Here is the PC part picker list. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do the fans spin? Are you plugging the monitor cable into the GPU instead of the motherboard?

Nothing comes on at all. The debug lights don't turn on, the PSU leds don't light up. I tried having nothing plugged in but the CPU, ram, cpu cooler fan, and just shorting the pins for the power switch but nothing came up then either

Double check that all the cables (motherboard 24pin, CPU 8pin, GPU 8pin or more) are all the way in correctly, and that the GPU/RAM sticks are seated correctly.

Otherwise the only thing that comes to mind is a bad motherboard.

Better safe than sorry question: did you put standoffs between the mobo and the case to avoid shorting it?

Yeah the case had them pre installed and I triple checked to make sure there wasn't an extra one or anything before installing the mobo. I also pulled the CPU to make sure I didn't some how bend the pins. I have built this computer twice now and gotten the same result.

I didn't try pulling the ram back out so maybe. But I am thinking its a dead mobo as well.

Everything was seated properly unfortunately. I do have a different PSU coming in on wednesday so I will try that but in the mean time I am going to order a replacement board as I am too impatient to wait for the whole RMA process and since I bought the board through amazon I should be able to return it no problem.

Damn I really hope thats a problem in the bios and is easily fixed. I did end up just ordering a different mobo. I went with the asus tuf x570 since I am too impatient to wait on the whole RMA/return thing. I can deal with that after I get it running.

Yep but I am using 16gb of gskill aegis 3000 ram. The 3600 should be in around Wednesday so I can get back to you about that issue then. But it's working fine with the 3000 stuff in it but I have not enabled the xmp stuff or anything yet. I got it to finally boot last night after realizing my stupidity then went to bed frustrated and happy.

I am uploading photos of the correct spot to hook up and the one I connected to for future reference for anyone that makes the same mistake.

What were you running? I just ordered Trident Z 3600 (cas 15) and looking at your signature thing I see that as the ram. I really hope I didn't order ram that just doesn't work with the 3700x as the listing for the stuff talks about being designed for intel and what not. I have been told that normally doesnt matter but I wonder.
