Seems pretty decent overall, but some parts (like '500 gb m.2 SSD') are kind of vague still.

Get a 3700X and an X570 Prime P. Same money, MUCH better quality board and value.

Also, look at the RX 5700 as it usually beats the 2060 Super for less money.

You also don't need 750W as the system will barely pull 300 watts

Well, that's what he said he wants, so I usually don't bother arguing if the CPU is enough for the stated use.

The motherboard will work and it won't be dangerous. You're not going to overclock Zen 2, so it doesn't really matter that the VRM isn't great.

No that was what he had in his initial list. The 3800X isn't worth the extra cash.

Of course the VRM matters. If it overheats then it will throttle. That means reduced performance. There is no reason to buy that board when there are better options. The Asus board above is far better for an extra $20 and it has wifi. Even a B450 Tomahawk would be a better option than that MSI X570 board.

Objectively incorrect. X570 Gaming plus basically has the same VRM, aside from a slightly better low side. X570 board will also get AGESA support for the next gen of AM4 cpus, which is why I chose X570 in the first place, ignoring PCIe 4.0. If he uses a downdraft cooler, which he probably is (since his budget can't fit an aftermarket cooler), it'll be fine.

I updated the part list with a new CPU. It's more or less at your budget now.

A ryzen 5 can stream pretty well, but depending on the game (or any future games), it might go into worrying territory.

The MSI X570 Gaming Edge wifi in the review below shows terrible temps with a 3900X.

https://www.kitguru.net/components/motherboard/luke-hill/x570-vrm-temperature-analysis-luke-deep-dive/all/1/

Then there is the MSI X570-A PRO which is also a terrible performer.

And Hardware Unboxed also did a video with B450 boards which included the Tomahawk. That was fine with a 3950X.

So for the sake of $20 why would you not go with the far better Asus board ?

Because the build is highly over-budget, and the MSi board is fine. Especially with an 8 core and the stock cooler, there won't be any problems. MSi has some of the best BIOS memory tuning for this generation of CPUs too, and memory is probably the biggest sticking point for Ryzen as a whole.

If video editing is the main use of this machine I'd personally stick with the 3700X. You can save money by going with a B450 board - it'll be able to handle the 3700X no problem, but it won't support the upcoming Ryzen 4000 CPUs. You do however have the option to throw up to a 3900X (12-core) in there, which might be great value once Ryzen 4000 is out. This depends on how important the upgradability to next gen CPUs is for you.

You could save a good chunk with a 3200MHz ram kit if your budget is tight - it's not a huge loss in performance.

Last but not least you can get a cheaper case to save some $.

Here's what that would look like:

Overall @SavageNeo's build is excellent and I would highly recommend it. If you want to save as much as possible (for a new monitor or other peripherals for example forget this; I overlooked the initial budget, so the reason for saving money is obvious to me now) the adjustments above are what I would recommend with good conscience

Edit: Oops, I just realized your budget was at 1000-1250 initially. If you can spare the extra money I'd stick with the 3600MHz ram.

Conclusion of that video: It should handle a 12 core. As he hasn't actually tested it with a cpu then he can only assume it will. I would take the Hardware Unboxed video that shows different with an actual cpu installed.

Also you are talking about a $20 difference. Hardly a deal breaker in terms of budget. You can get a cheaper set of Ram to offset that.

Except you can't really, you want at minimum 3200Mhz RAM, and the kit I chose was more or less the cheapest 32gb kit on the market (there is a cheaper kit, but it's one without heatsinks for $10 less, you could go for that which would get the price closer to the top end of the budget). You don't want to go for a 2x8 kit and add more later either, since you would ideally want an AsRock board if you were to do that. And for the money you get MSi's memory tuning, which is pretty nice to have for Ryzen. The VRMs are fine, especially with an 8-core.

It's fit for purpose and the price is right.

Over budget by a whopping $23. Or he could just go with the build @ShinRamen posted and be under budget. Also aesthetics are subjective. The Ram you chose doesn't look that great imo.

IDK what's going on in the top comments, but here's my build suggestion (that Corsair case just chokes the fans and a hate cases that choke the fans). Consider upgrading to an aftermarket cooler and some fan cases in the near future. The CM H500 comes with two 200mm fans in the front and one 120mm in the rear, top supports two 120/140mm fans and one 200mm fan. I'd get a decent aftermarket case fan for the rear and one 200mm Cooler Master for the top. It also supports radiators, 360mm in the front and 280mm at the top.

According to Puget Systems, NVIDIA graphics card would be a better choice here mainly because OP is going to use Adobe software for video editing.
