One was a music video one was a live performance. They are also two different people so they will have different kinds of inflection in their singing. I wouldn't use music to compare how different languages sound.

As a Dutch person, I only understand some of the words in Afrikaans.

But I can say the only things that sound different in Afrikaans is the way he pronounces some (not all) of the R's in words.

 

Dutch still has quite some dialects. Guus Meeuwis is from North-Brabant, one of the most southern provinces of the Netherlands.

The dialect in North-Brabants (Brabants), the dialect in Limburg (south-western Netherlands) and Belgium (Flemish) has a 'softer' sound to it.

Guus Meeuwis' concerts series is called "Groots met een Zachte G", which translates to "Great, with a soft G" and I think that sums up the accent in that part of the Netherlands. The words are much less harsh and sound a lot softer in general.

 

Even the accent between The Hague and Rotterdam (relatively close together) is quite pronounced and you can kind of hear where a person is from (or at least where their parents grew up, or where they studied) just based on their accent.

 

So Dutch has quite a few accents/dialects and I am sure Afrikaans does too.

In Dutch, there is kind of a divide between accents. 'Hard G' or 'Soft G'.

As said previously, Guus Meeuwis is from North-Brabant, where they are known to talk with a 'soft G'.

The G is usually pronounced a bit 'harder' in the rest of the Netherlands (other than the south portions), but yea, it's not as 'harsh' as the 'k' sound that it seems like Afrikaans replaced it with.

 

But I suppose in the end, 'regular Dutch' does sound less harsh than Afrikaans (or English for that matter). To me I would say the sentences and words do not flow together as much as French for example does, but it's still kind of common for us to try to combine two words together when pronouncing them.

Just thought I should post some music as context for other accents of Dutch.

This is the accent of people from the province/city of Utrecht. That is central Netherlands and they talk what I would consider ABN ('Algemeen beschaaft Nederlands' = 'Generally civilized Dutch' = 'Normal' Dutch).

 

The G and R sounds are a lot like harsh than what you will hear in Afrikaans, but that's mainly (I would assume/think, but I'm not a linguist) because Afrikaans is a mix between Dutch and English. 

 

Although there are some dialect that have a harder sounding R and the G is quite a bit harsher too.
Most the accents in The Hague and Leiden (kind of similar these two) and the accent in Rotterdam too.

This is an accent from someone who is from Leiden. That is about 1-2 hours with a car away from someone who grew up in North-Brabant or Limburg. His R sounds are harsher.

We usually call such an accent 'flat'.

Of course there are the eastern accents too, which range from more nasal sounding, to German sounding.

 

I suppose what the summary of this post would be is:

"There are different sounding accents/dialect in all languages. While a native speaker could hear differences, for foreigners it's much more difficult to hear what the accent is. Someone who did not grow up in the UK, might know a British, from a Scottish from an Irish accent, but won't be able to hear the difference from one town to another, while a local might".
