Thoughts on cooling a 3950x

Hi,

 

So I am running a 3950x under a DH-15S with a single fan and I peak at 69C under full load (folding for 16 hours on all cores). Is it worthwhile installing a second fan on the DH-15S or replacing the stock fan? I am using MX-4 from arctic cooling as a TIM, is it worthwhile going with thermal grizzly?

 

Yes I know 69C is perfectly fine, but I'm bored and wanted a fun little project that would be worthwhile to do.

TG Kryo historically drops my temps by 3-5c no matter what paste Im replacing unless its TG Kryo.

 

I think with another fan you could achieve another 3-5c also.

So get a second fan and switch to Grizzy... what about Gelid GC Extreme? Oh and stick with Noctua fans? I'm not sure if there are any others that would mount to that behemoth

If it were me - there is nothing like TG Kryo, and I have a few tubes of other stuff I use (MX-4, etc) for other peoples builds and re-builds I do for fun with my parts pile.

 

And if I was already rocking a Noc, Id rock a second Noc

 

(EDIT if you have a fan laying around, before investing in another Noctua fan, Id test with that one to see if it helps, if it does than a Noctua will help even more....also think about Sound levels too)

I had a NH-D15 previously, and it was stock with 2 fans. It make no differences to remove the first fan, as long as the middle fan stay.
I don't think TG gonna improve much things. Maybe a bit, but MX-4 is already pretty good.

Btw, take care, but don't panic for COVID. As long as you do what is recommended.

Guess I'll pass by my local microcenter (for some reason theyre still open) and see if they have stuff I need. I'd rather not order online at this time unless I absolutely have to.

You might get a 2-3c drop but I think that's about it.
