Like many others, I'm locked down and have turned my attention to the kitchen to make new foods.

In this case, ramen broth.

With the help of the movie Ramen Heads, I've managed to make (with lots of trial and error) two broths for ramen, a dark heavy almost gravy-like broth, and a light clear one, that I feel are authentic and close to what the movie shows.

So far, so good. Only thing I'me lacking is some of the "decorations", specifically the little gear-shaped thing in the upper left of this pic (linked because of size):

What is it?

The only Asian grocery store near me is less than helpful in this regards, so I gotta hunt through the store myself, but it would help if I knew what it is, or the name of it.

Thannks.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

If narutomaki isn't available at your local store, try kamaboko. They're essentially the same thing (narutomaki is a type of kamaboko), and are just patterned/shaped differently.

What is Narutomaki? (The White and Pink Thing on Ramen) | favy     Kamaboko - Wikipedia

Left: Narutomaki. Right: Kamaboko.

Spoiler

Also try some menma (seasoned bamboo shoots) too, I always love them in my ramen. 😁

Spoiler

Okay but I'm Team Udon/Zaru Soba (Cold Soba).

Udon / Zaru Soba > Ramen.

Fight me.

One day I'll try Nagashi Somen!!!!   One day...

Otherwise I like Zaru Soba in summer when it^s really really hot! 😛

But in "normal" time my heart (and stomach) definitely belongs to ramen! 😛

You could even use crab sticks in a pinch. Its all surimi in the end.

I've been doing that currently, because I can get crab stick easily.

Not sure how the taste is different, but I'll find out this weekend when I make another batch.
