How to connect a 2.5" hard disk to my mother board?

Hi! Sorry for the stupid question. I have a 2.5" hard disk taken from an old notebook and a x570 tuf motherboard.

What do I need to connect them together? Any specific cable?

A SATA data cable to your motherboard (the same sort of cable a 3.5" HDD, 2.5" SSD or optical drive uses) and a SATA power cable from your PSU (same as previously mentioned).

 

Unless this is a very old IDE drive, it connects in the exact same way as a 3.5" HDD, 2.5" SSD or optical drive.

Sata 6 gb/s cable which connects to mobo and a sata power cable from the psu

Just gō on amazon and search SATA cable. all hatd drives use the same

There should be one coming from your PSU already. If it's a fully modular one and you don't have the SATA power cable then you need to buy one

Do you have a hard drive or SSD in your computer already or is this going to be the only one?

 

I ask cuz you can just look at the drive you already have and see the cables attached, which would be the same ones this needs.  Provided you didn't go M.2 of course.

This is a second hard disk that I use for backup. I want to put it inside the computer since it is always connected with usb.

Ok, I'll check when I get the PSU. The PSU is corsair rm650x, there are some cables included. I'll check when I get it.

 

For now I'll buy a sata cable. Thanks

If you've bought a new power supply then it will definitely come with SATA power cables!!

Motherboard most likely came with 2+ sata cables, check there first.

 

You can always look in the motherboard manual, should have how to attach a SSD/HDD to it in there.
