Will a GPU work if i remove 1of the DDR5X chips??

I have a GTX 1080 and i installed a aftermarket cooler that required me to use thermal glue for some small heatsinks. When i went to put the stock cooler back on i broke one of the DDR5x chips. I cant find a broken card to get a chip from so i was wondering if i remove 1 of them will it still work or would i need to remove 2 or would that even work? I know its a shot in the dark but i went from a 1080 to a RX 580 i had laying around and it SUCKS! I can remove and re-solder the chip if i had one. I do it all the time in cell phones. That's not a problem. The problem is finding a broken founders Edition GTX 1080 to scavenge for parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I very much doubt it would work. I can't see how it would, the BIOS and firmware will think there is a chip there, so even if it booted, when it goes to load things into VRAM it'll nope all over you.

What heat-sink required thermal glue?!?!?

how do you know if it was broken? or which one are?

you can find the chip at aliexpress, just search for the part number.

I heard the crack when i went to remove the heatsink and you can see the break. I will try ty.

Accelero Xtreme III and i have seen fake GPUs work with less Vram than the bios thinks. although its a custom bios.

I mean, "work" is a very loose term in that case. LTT even did a video on it, some of them did indeed load a game and run, but.... preeeety horribly. And custom BIOS helps their chances, and still is mostly garbage.

Also with that heatsink, you couldn't just use a sticky thermal pad? Thermal glue is pretty extreme.

That's what it came with and because the heatsinks hang from the chips its the only think holding the heatsink on. Well i was hoping that if i removed 1 as long as i didn't max out Vram usage it wouldn't crash but, idk. If i cant find a chip then im gonna try it because what do i have to lose lol

I mean, its unlikely, cut it could fry your mobo or something. I doubt it tho....

But I would be so shocked if it worked.
