Hello guys, i wanted to change my ram speed from 2130 something MHZ to 3200 , the maximum that i can get on this ram and motherboard, but after i do that and save change and restart in bios, pc will turn on and off 2 or 3 times and after it will start on normally but the ram MHz wouldn't change, i have 2 sticks of 8 gb ddr4 corsair, and a motherboard asus strix b450 f

Is the ram on the motherboards QVL? You can try updating the bios to the latest version, and if it still doesn't work just try setting the memory to a lower frequency until it is stable.

What frequency is your kit rated at?

Make sure Asus’s EZ-Tuning Utility is set to ‘Normal’

Turn off DOCP/XMP mode

Then in Extreme Tweaker settings set RAM to its rated speed. (IE set a 3200MHz kit to 3200MHz)

Set DRAM Voltage to 1.3500V

See if you are stable from there.

Also recommend checking the following voltages:

-          CPU SOC Voltage – Manual Mode – VDDSOC 1.1000V

-          1.8V PLL Voltage – 1.8000V

-          1.05V SB Voltage – 1.0500V

Asus loves having these cranked at default which makes no sense and can negatively impact stability.

Well you can OC RAM, even on that motherboard, my 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance kit is OC'd at 3400MHz, but start at the rated frequency of 3200MHz. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get it to work based on the settings I recommended. If that is the case it would point to another issue.

Keep in mind, it is *UP TO* 3200 MHz -- and with "O.C" at that.

Overclocking anything (e.g. GPU, CPU, RAM...monitor) will vary, and is not 100% guaranteed.

Your motherboard, CPU, and RAM combination will play a part, and a bit of lucky on the CPU side.

As @JM21  mentioned, update your motherboard's BIOS to the latest version, and see if you can get DDR4-3200 MHz stable by just enabling XMP / DOCP.

If not, you'll have to settle with either:

  • Try running 3200 MHz by manually adjusting the timing(s) and/or voltage(s)
  • Run the DRAM at a lower frequency that your motherboard and/or CPU is willing to accept (e.g. 3000 MHz, 2933 MHz, etc).

OR, purchase a different DRAM kit, and try your luck again...

i tried 3200, it will turn off and on 3 times and the 4th will boot normal up but at 2133 , i tried 3133, same thing 3066 same thing, but it accepts 3000, im pretty ok with that, but still would be nice 3200, at least 3000 works, better than 2133

The motherboard will try to "relearn" itself, to get DDR4-3200 working.

That is why your computer is rebooting / power cycling three times.

But after a couple of failed attempts, it will give up, and revert settings back to JEDEC fail-safe standard settings -- which is DDR4-2133.

DDR4-3000 is less strain on the CPU / Integrated Memory Controller (IMC; that is within the CPU), and typically easier to run / get stable compared to something like 3200 MHz / 3400 MHz / 3600 MHz...or 4400 MHz...

You can either leave it a DDR4-3000, or try loosening the different timings settings (bring the numbers up), and/or increase the DRAM / VDDSOC / SOC voltage(s) up a little bit.

I welcome you to the game (and art) of overclocking. 🙃

im not that bright at computers but i just finished to build it today ! my first ever pc

Grats! In my opinion, 3000 Mhz sounds like an acceptable solution. There won't be a huge difference between 3200 and 3000. Probably a few %, I think, with a Ryzen CPU. Always nice to have more speed with the Ryzen, sure, but I wouldn't bother returning and getting a new set of RAM. Just as -rascal- said, it might also be your CPU that doesn't like faster RAM so changing it might not even help.

Hello guys, recently i built my pc but after the first shutdown i had I noticed the next day that if i turn it on it will turn on normally but after a few seconds it will turn off and stay like that a few seconds more and after it will turn on again with no problem. Why? And sometimes it works, it does not shut down, it just starts normally. What is going on?

If it happens at every startup and you get no picture before first restart  than it will be the precharge process.

So you start your PC normal -> PC turns on -> goes off after few seconds (no picture on screen) -> stays off for few seconds -> turns on normally

this is the precharge process for capacitors on your motherboard. so everything is normal
