Looking for easy way to use dual monitors for work laptop and PC

Hi guys,

 

Lately I've been working from home with the corona outbreak and have somewhat of a 'frankenstein' setup. I have a small office with dual monitors that I have hooked up to a work laptop. It's somewhat annoying though that when I'm finished with work, I'm having to physically disconnect the VGA cable (my second monitor is quite old) from the laptop and plug it back into my gaming PC. As for my primary monitor, I'm using a HDMI switch which does work pretty well...at least I'm not causing wear and tear unplugging the cable every day.

 

Is there such a thing as a switch with a HDMI and VGA connector? I guess I would need one with 2 inputs (VGA and HDMI) and 2 outputs (VGA and HDMI monitors) I've searched google but it looks like you can only buy one with one type of plug.

why not buy one of each. just have to hit 2 buttons when switching.

I guess I could do that...I would like to have a single switch that changes over both monitors at the same time. Right now, the cables I have running for speakers, oculus and everything else is getting to be pretty ridiculous. I'm trying to keep everything as neat and tidy as possible.

 

I also forgot to mention, I'd like something that switches over my mouse and keyboard as well...

Didn't the Level1Tech guys make a good KVM switch?  Though not cheap if memory serves.

Yes, they have a couple of different switches. I have yet to find one with HDMI and VGA ports though...

 

I'm really tempted to just go buy a cheap $70 21" monitor to replace this monitor from 2005...it doesn't have to be great. Might be cheaper. LOL

I was thinking of an adapter, but I didn't look to see if those exist or work reliably.  

 

Yeah, that would be a much cheaper solution than those switches.  Heck might as well splurge an go 24".

I'll have to measure how much room I actually have...unfortunately, my desktop space is very limited...
