X79 SLI780ti build log

Hakka

This is the old rig:

post-56169-0-61326200-1392567789_thumb.j

I was originally going to upgrade the graphics cards to 780tis, but it got out of control and I ended up with a whole new build. All the parts in the above pic have been transferred to a black Corsair 600t, the new build will go in the silver 600t in the pic above.

Parts for the new build are:

Asus Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition

Intel i7 4930k

G.Skill 8x8gb 1600mhz RAM

2 x EVGA GTX780ti superclocked + EVGA backplates

Asus Phoebus sound card

Corsair AX1200i

Corsair H100i

Crucial m4 256gb,128,gb ssd

Crucial m500 960gb ssd

Sandisk Extreme II 480gb ssd

Bitfenix spectre pro 200mm in front

Corsair SP120 performance edition on h100i

Corsair AF120 performance edition as rear exhaust

NZXT Hue LED controller

I have a red theme going on with everything except the 780tis, I'll be changing the led colour and maybe some parts of the cooler.

I want the H100i to pull cold air in, its a bit cramped around the RAM so its either offset the radiator (which looks a bit shit) or hide it in the cavity below the top grill.

The mesh needs a hole cut out so the hoses can pass through, its only going to impede the airflow so I cut it out the full length of the rad. The rad is a bit longer than the mesh panel so the cut needs to go a bit further on each end.

Just enough room for the grill to click into place.

Still waiting on some Teleios cable sleeve to arrive so I put it altogether real quick to make sure everything works, one of the cards is pulling 1350mhz on air, the other is around 1250mhz. CPU is at 4.5ghz at 1.32v.

I game at 5990 x 1200, the 680s are struggling to run some recent games at max settings. The old rig is now an extremely powerful torrent box.

I just ran unigine heaven benchmark on both rigs, the old one got 2460 overclocked to the max, the new one got 3950 with a rushed overclock, theres a lot of headroom left.

This is a pretty massive build to not have a complete water loop.. I have faith! Can't wait to see this beast in action.

Space.. I am.. Space..

It will get a water loop eventually, along with a third 780ti.

This was a rushed assembly to check if everything works:

post-56169-0-85986000-1392687569_thumb.j

I cut out the mesh from the front fan intake, its a bit rough I'll clean it up with the dremel:

Added a second set of red rings to the underside of the fans to make them look better:

My original plan was to do the new build in the black case but went with the silver case because it worked better with the silver on the 780tis, and the black 680s from the old build worked better with the black case. The old build looks exactly the same as it did apart from the outer case colour.

I just stuck that in there to install the mobo drivers, I probably wont use it in the final build as I dont have any spare 5.25 bays, and I'm planning to put some other parts in that spot inside the case - a USB internal header hub and another SSD. I'll try to hide the hub inside the plastic box that goes under the drive cages, with the SSD on top.

Very nice, that side panel.

Also got an EVGA pro SLI bridge, might switch the leds over to red ones to make it a bit faster.

I always thought UV LEDs were the fastest and gave you the best overclocks?

I installed a set of sleeved corsair cables, I'm just using these so I can still use the PC while I'm sleeving the original cables with Teleios sleeving (still on the way). A set of replacement cables + freight worked out to be about the same price as buying the sleeved ones locally.

I have bitfenix sata data cables, which are a different red to the bitfenix sata power cables, which are a different red to the corsair cables. I'm gonna have to strip everything and redo them with the Teleios sleeving.

I changed the fans around, I'm now using the rear fan as an intake, and the top fans as exhausts pushing through the H100i rad. Temps are a bit better, it gives me cold air across the ram and mobo heatsinks which is then pushed through the rad. Intake and exhaust now seems to be better balanced, but still positive pressure.
