Given CPU power cable doesn't fit the CPU power slot

RunningInSquares

Hi, I'm working with the following parts:

Mobo: MSI B450 Tomahawk ATX AM4

PSU: Corsair RM 850 W

I've never run into this problem before but it seems that the given cable for powering the PSU (clearly labeled 'CPU' doesn't fit in the given spot for the CPU power. The cable has two four-pin connectors that connect together and, as you can (hopefully) see in the image, there is a little nub on the bottom of the two halves in the middle, preventing it from fitting in the plug, which does not have such a space in it.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm figuring it's some stupid mistake I am making, but I'm having trouble seeing what is wrong currently.

the cable of the 1rst picture is a cpu (8/4 pins) and you plug it on the second picture, but as you can see. you need 2 of them, one 8pin like you are holding and e second one exactly the same, but you just plug the half.

That worked! Thank you so much. I didn't know I could actually get away with that.

Plug in just half, you usally don't need all eight pins.

Yes he need it, this is what they told me and thought in the beginning, but a technician told me they should be both plugged.

not sure whats going on here, just to clarify:

Join the two 4 pin connectors together (like you have in the first photo)

And plug them into CPU_PWR_1 (8 pin)

CPU_PWR_2 (4pin) is completely optional and not needed ever.

Erm, where did you get a Tomahawk with 8+4 EPS? AFAIA it only has a singular 8 pin. It looks more like Pro Carbon AC to me.

Make sure that all the power cables are securely connected to a proper ATX power supply to ensure stable operation of the motherboard.

From the carbon mainboard manual.. he will need to use a second 8 pin splittable CPU powercable. and connect the 4 pin connector too.
