First PC Suggestions

Hello,

I'm very new to PC gaming I've only ever gamed on my mac book pro for a few months but it just ran like poop. I have switched to console and play it all the time but I'm ready for a computer that can run any game with no problems. I would need suggestions in USD and have a budget of 800-1000 for the computer alone. I can flex a little bit if the performance is going to be a lot better. I don't have much desire to stream but I do wish to have the upgrade options later on. I don't have a monitor, keyboard, or mouse but that can be extra. Thanks for all the help us want a awesome PC that will work.

?‍♂️ Depends on if you plan on going with AMD or Intel. Whichever path you choose, for the love of all that is wholesome, DO NOT waste your money on these high refresh rate monitors. The hardware currently available is not at that point where they can guaranteee 144 fps even at 1080P on high settings, much less 1440P or 4K.

I'm liking the look of AMD Ryzen just don't know if I need a 5 or 7. Just don't wanna not be able to play games. I like open world games and kinda of want to get into space engineers and arma

I've included a monitor suggestion as well, 1080p 144Hz IPS FreeSync Display.

This is your best bet as you can upgrade the CPU in 1 gen as well, the AM4 platform is phenomenal value and the 3600 is a powerful CPU. Perfect gaming rig!

EDIT: Wrong GPU selection, meant to add a 5700XT.

? With your budget, for the processors I'd go with an RX 5700XT and a Ryzen 7 3700X, with no less than 16 gbs of ram, and go extra cheap with a 75hz, free sync monitor. I was originally planning on getting one of them high refresh rate monitors, but I have recently been enlightened on how much I'd be ripping myself off. When picking out a case, make sure the fans for it are in the front, especially if your desk won't allow for a lot of room for air flow in the back of it. A dust filter would also help as well. I'll leave the rest of the components to others.

3700x won't give really any more of a performance boost while gaming over a 3600. 1080p high refresh-rate Free-sync monitors are literally like a $40-80 premium vs a 75Hz panel, not a rip-off. Quality monitors allow you to experience your PC's performance visually, so a good investment.

With a 1,000 dollar budget, I take that to mean he is looking for components on the higher end spectrum, which is not a 3600. A 3600 will bottleneck you sooner than a 3700X will in the future, which is the main reason why I suggested it to him. I can get a free sync 75 hz monitor for way less than $159 and actually get what I paid for in performance. There isn't a computer on earth that can run most games at 144 fps even at 1080P, not with the graphics set to high, so he is just ripping himself off when it comes down to it.

Here you go, watch and learn. This dude doesn't get 144 fps in half the games tested in this video, even at 1080P. If this were my money, my computer would have to do a lot better than that. Some of the games that did reach it don't even count, like CS GO and Apex Legends, which are not very demanding games to start with. This is with an R5 3600 by the way.

What?

I play most of my games on high and get consistent 120+ fps from a gtx 1660. It's a pity to waste a 5700xt on a 75hz monitor.

? With what games and with what CPU though? This is a benchmark at 1080P with your GPU using an I9-9900K. If you are getting 120 fps in these games, we all would really like to know what type of sorcery you used to achieve it. This is what benchmarks are for, to help customers make informed decisions on how to spend their money.

Made some personal tweaks to @JM21's build, but otherwise he made a good build and you can go with either of them or a combination. And definitely go for a 144hz screen, it's worth it.

Firstly, no one should ever play in all-ultra settings. There are a few settings that don't make any difference visually, but are very taxing on performance. Very high is the industry standard foe testing.

Secondly, only 3 of the games you showed had under 60 fps. The rest were above and a 144hz screen can take advantage of that.

Finally, the 5700xt we recommend for OP should have much higher fps than the 1660.

Look at the bottom of the screen. The highest he ever got in any of those games was an average frame rate of 104, no where near 144 FPS. Yes, they never go under sixty, never said they did. The RX 5700XT will certainly give him a better performance than a 1660, but 144 fps is still a pipe dream in the most demanding games.

You ha a rx470, no wonder you're not hitting 144fps. Look, this argument is pointless. I never said you can hit 144fps in all games. All i've said is that if you get 100+ in at least a few games that you play, a 144hz monitor is worth it.

In my case, I get 50 fps in witcher 3 and cities skylines, but 120fps in apex and destiny 2 and the division 2 and chivalry (to name a few), so it's totally worth it for me. It's up to OP in the end and to what games he plans on playing.

Pick whoever you want, the tests are very consistent. In context of the high refresh rate craze, neither Nvidia or AMD can promise a performance that high, not in any of the benchmarks I've seen.

Pick whoever you want, the tests are very consistent. In context of the high refresh rate craze, neither Nvidia or AMD can promise a performance that high, not in any of the benchmarks I've seen.

no like i like both brands it just seems like that guy always has very suspicious statistics especially he only lists average fps and minimum fps and not actual benchmarks

Just "a few games" is not worth the extra 100 or so bucks to me. He has been informed, its his money, so its up to him.

The average and minimums are really all that matters in the end when advising a customer on buying 120hz-244hz monitors. Its about getting what he paid for in performance, and for the most part, he won't be with those monitors.

on sale you can get a good 1080p 144hz for like, 160 in my case. at least thats what i got mine for. even if im getting under 80 fps its still good just to have. better to have something you dont need than to not have something you need.

can i also mention how you chose to compare a 350 dollar card to a 650 dollar card, from two reputable brands. of course the one for 650 is going to be better, its 650 for a reason.

?‍♂️ Well, I don't need it right now. When the hardware can actually achieve a steady 120-144 fps in the most demanding games I and most other people play, then I'll consider it.

The comparison between the two cards wasn't the point, its about price for value for a monitor.

Other people have given some strong choices compared to mine, but those went above your budget. The list i made is a little below your budget allowing for either some flexibility or to be able to spend more on peripherals. I just felt like putting my hat in the ring.
