Depends on the source of the ivory. Elk and boar ivory is legal and is commonly used in products that advertise it these days.

No. All sources of ivory, due to many of them being endangered, including species of deer and wild pig, are not legal to hunt for the purpose of collecting ivory. Many countries do not follow these laws, but they are international. In the USA, possession, distribution, or trade of ivory can get you fines up to (last I checked, It might have increased since some species of Rhino are extinct now) 2,000$USD and a prison sentence of up to 3 years. Because of how large the market is and the fact that you can disguise an elephant tusk as a boar tusk with the rights tools, law enforcement don't want to take chances. Now, possession of ivory produced before 1990 is legal here in states, for example, a giftbox, but you must provide proof of legal possession, such as a receipt. You may also not sell or distribute this ivory.

As far as i know ivory itself isnt illegal.

 

You can buy boar ivory in the US right now. Its used in a lot of jewelry, knives, etc.

 

Boar arent in any danger of being extinct in the US. Hell in some areas they will pay you to hunt the wild boar.

You can buy wild boar ivory all over the place.  Ive got a few knives with ivory inlays from boar in texas. In my area they sell tusks to make your own crafts

All ivory is banned internationally. I probably should have phrased that better. You wouldn't be able to sell your knives to someone outside the U.S. including territories.

So is mammoth ivory. They apparently shed their exceptionally impressive tusks in the winter so there’s a surprisingly large (though still small) amount of it around.  It has a different color than elephant ivory and is easily identifiable.  It’s whale ivory and elephant ivory that is the evil stuff.

That is kind of true. Even though mammoths have been extinct for more than 20,000 years, their tusks are still viable for value on the black market and open market. There are efforts to prevent that from law enforcement and private organizations. To be fair, it would be big pp if you built a rig around the case. This case was mostly thrown in because wow factor and it's expensive methinks. It's one of the ones you have to actually build specifically for if you want it to look good. If the compensator had been built around its case, it would have looked much more put together, rather than a normal PC slapped inside an abstract art piece. That would also take an insane amount of work though, and AFAIK LTT tears these down to use parts in other videos as well, meaning you'd do all that work only to take it apart again. Can't blame the team for wanting to avoid that, and they likely also wanted to avoid just going with a "normal" case. IMO a bit more work should have gone into the rig if it's really going to be labeled the compensator, but eh, there's reasons for how it turned out and I can't fault LTT too much over that. If anything the main grievance is that it's purely excess with little heart, but if they're going for the pure flex build, then that's what those end up being anyways. Time to go watch the old compensator videos and see what, if anything, was different with those

Re: wood.  
Not undoable.  My personal move would be to do the steam bending wood trick.  Maybe use glued hardwood strips in a vise and do a “hardwood plywood”. Very 1950’s tech, but it would lend itself well to something like this.

I wouldn't buy one but I don’t mind looking at it. It’s not offensive and we've seen a lot worse. It’s actually kind of nice to see something so different from the typical boxes of various materials and colors.

I saw it and thought to myself ..  That's not a case that's a public art installation.  It'd look good in like a public plaza or something not on a desk or a table.  
That said it fit the theme of being an overcompensating case.  What I don't like about it though ... is that it provides not protection from damage ... like...at all.  Trip with a cup of coffee and the compensator 3 is going bye bye.   It's all open.

Artistic sentiment aside, it still looks like it was born out of a depressed moment of frustration using photoshop.
My opinion kinda stops at 'my god thats impractical' but I've nothing against people who like the creative side of pc builds at all... or people who like this build in particular.
I just think looks like it was originally a far less interesting design that had an effect dragged through it, still impressive engineering to make it work though.
