New Build for a Friend

TekkyTG

My friend has a rather aging system (it's actually my old computer, until I built myself one)

He works, but he doesn't make enough money to pay for a system himself, or even upgrades.

His birthday is coming up and I'm tired of him lagging out lol, so I put together a part list for him.

His favorite color is red, so I'm obviously going for a very red themed system. I want him to be able

to play Rainbow Six Siege at about 165FPS on high settings. I went a hundred bucks over budget,

which I'm willing to pay, but if there are any ideas about how I can decrease the cost without affecting

performance too much, I'm very open to that. I've only got a 250gb m.2 ssd in there because I already

have a 1TB Steam drive I can put in it.

I see a lot of nice builds, but if he's on that much of a budget, you should really be looking used. Even with the money you chip in you'll get way more for the money.

Older Ryzen 2600 systems sell super cheap.

To be completely honest, I was looking for something that was a lot cheaper without losing much performance, or even gaining it. While the 1600 offers 2 more cores, It lose .4 less GHz, which makes a MASSIVE difference. The CPU cooler looks absolutely terrible and the stock cooler is actually better after doing some research online, although I love how the Steel Legend looks, I have to the /ac variant because my friend has to use a dongle that's been repaired about 30 times right now, and he's unable to go with a wired connection.

I definitely see the point in moving to a 500 GB m.2 drive, but I'm going for a 500 dollar budget and just want the OS and one game on it at the moment. Everything else can go on his 1 TB drive. The case also looks terrible, without being much cheaper than the Fractal Design case. Although you put in an RX 580, the 570 I had actually clocked MUCH higher than the 580, and had a much better "red" look. Thanks for your time, but I just can't go for any of those options :/

I like it. I'll be tweaking my build a bit. I didn't realize the 2600 was so cheap actually.

you can get a cheaper case to get it even lower, or go with 2x4gb of ram

I know I can get a bit of a cheaper case, but my friend really loves red, and this case has a lot of nice features, so I really don't want anything else at the moment. Thanks for the suggestion though. Many of the games he plays will utilize a minimum of 7-7.8 gigs of ram, so the truth is there is just not a choice about the ram. I'm also running at 3000 speeds, and if you're much of a fan off LTT, which I hope you are since you're in this forum, you'll know that's the bare minimum for Ryzen.

Used is your best option then, but I modified the parts list to help with the budget.

This is $100 less.

that's a really crappy board considering it doesn't even have a VRM heatsink, the pro4 is light years ahead.

the 1600 AF is $20 less and performs the same.

DRAMless SSD, the BP5e Slim 7 will perform much better.
