Hi, so I've got a MSI GL75 laptop with an i7 9750h and a gtx 1660 ti gpu. Also has 16gb ddr4 and 120hz panel. But the noise of the fans are annoying sometimes and also the heat. I know laptops dont have the best cooling.

Just wondering if anyone would recommend keeping it or selling it to build a desktop?

Regards

Craig

If you have a laptop, you probably got it for a reason; e.g. portability.

So sure, a desktop is much quieter (if you pick the right parts), but it can also only be used at a desk realistically.

get a keyboard. that way you won't feel the heat anymore and the laptop will be further away from you, so the noise will be more bearable as well

issue is, I recently got benq monitor 144hz esports as my 2nd display and would like to use it as my main for gaming but cant get it 144hz via the laptop

Well 144hz is not something that much better than 120hz.. So not sure that was a great investment (unless size etc.). Does your laptop not have DVI port? As for laptop vs desktop, check for how much you could sell it and what you could build with that cash. In general, if there is no issue with traveling, space etc, desktop always has an upper hand price/performance wise :)

why not? does it a have a displayport output? it should work if yes. but I agree, if you have a desk setup with monitor and all and don't take your laptop with you anyway, might as well get a desktop instead. why did you get a laptop in the first place?
