The Great Molasses Tsunami of 1919.

In Boston in 1919, a very large reservoir of hot molasses broke and flooded the entire city. There are eye-witness reports of a sweet-smelling hellscape with people disappearing into the wave and horses being dragged across the city.

Some say you can still smell the molasses.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

Here’s one that literally no one will care about:

The Swiss Alps rally course in Gran Turismo 3 had originally intended to be named Smokey Mountain South, to coincide with Smokey Mountain North, which was simply retitled to Smokey Mountain Circuit in the final game. Funny enough, neither of these tracks have any real relation, with Smokey Mountain Circuit taking on more of an American mountain atmosphere and the Swiss Alps track taking on a more European alpine atmosphere.

Cheese fact: The orange colouring on cheese does not affect the flavour in any way. The orange dye was made with the American BBQer in mind, it made a more pleasing aesthetic and more appetizing appeal. There was a group of kids who were given regular "yellow" cheese, and orange coloured of the same cheese. They all chose the orange ones as the better tasting ones. But again, taste is not actually affected. It's all psychological.

Here's another one:

We all know about VHS. If you knew about decent camcorders in the 1990s, you likely knew about S-VHS in some form, too. But you probably didn't know that VHS went HD, twice. W-VHS was a strange Japan-only VHS format that allowed MUSE Hi-Vision recording onto a W-VHS tape, while D-VHS was a digital format using a VHS tape that allowed up to 1920x1080i60 recordings at 28Mbps compressed using the MPEG-2 video codec. D-VHS and especially D-Theater machines are notorious for premature deaths because the hardware they pack was not properly designed to work in the machines they were stuck in.

  • 3 weeks later...

So... Missed this thread :-S

My contribution:

Did you know that there are 2 kind of hand sanitizers available in hospitals? The readily available one and the hidden one.

The most common one readily found everywhere is also the one you have between 20 and 30% chances to be allergic to.

The other one is the one for the nurses who are known to be allergic to it.

I discovered I was allergic to the common one when visiting a relative in november. It took me 1 week to understand what was happening and why, just because a friend of mine, who also happens to be a nurse, told me that it could be the hand sanitizer. After checking, yep!

Don't ask me what it is I'm allergic to. I recognize the bottles by their color as all hospitals here have the same thing.

Yeah! I know... Very useful... ?

The term “taint” is actually sports terminology left over from jousting.  The taint is the part of the lance to which the pointy bit attaches.  The rules were if you prove a lance against an opponent you got a point.  If you only messed up the area right behind the tip though the opponent wast “tainted” which was not worth a point but served to break a tie, which happened a lot.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
