RX590

Hi   I am looking for some advice on the RX590 graphics card.

I currently have a GTX960 4GB graphics card and a 34" AOC monitor resolution is 3440X1440 @ 60 hertz.

I am looking to upgrade to 2 27" monitors one to be 4K for YouTube videos and the other one a 144 hertz for some gaming (I don't play a lot of games GTA5 and Dirt Rally 2)

Would the RX590 be able to do this. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a graphics card for 2 games.

The RX 590 is definitely a nice upgrade from a gtx 960. It's great for 1080p high settings but I wouldn't expect it to push 1440p gaming at 144hz all that well.

I'd be surprised if a 590 couldn't handle GTA V's single player pretty well at 1440p if you're ok with 60 fps, considering I could run it on my GTX 970 at 60-100 fps at 1080p just turning the shadows down to high and leaving the advanced settings turned off. Even on my 970 I found the game very cpu bound though with my 4C/8T 3.6 GHz Xeon E3-1231v3 (Haswell cores). So I don't know how much luck you might have targeting 144 fps unless you really take a hatchet to settings. GTA V doesn't seem to scale with more cpu cores nearly as well as newer games either.

why would you buy 590 in the first place? 1660 is roughly the same price, has ~12-13% OC headroom, half the power consumption.. I see no reason why would anyone buy a 590.

The real question here is how much does the rx590 cost? If it’s dirt cheap go for it, if it’s retail then pass

The RX 590 will struggle with 1440p 144Hz. Essentially only really old MMOs could maybe hit that. I have an RX 5700 with a 1440 144Hz monitor and it can struggle to go above 90fps sometimes.

VRAM is the only reason I can think of, and there are some games that do need it...

Thanks for the response. Would i be better to get a 100 hertz monitor instead of 144 hertz.

Speaking as some one who had an RX580 that OC'd pretty well... getting close to 590 speeds... running GTA V at 1440p... you're only gonna get 60fps if you really turn down the quality settings. You should hit it fine at 1080p though.

RX 590 = R9 Fury, it will not push 1440p 144hz panel to its max (average 80 FPS) offline mode at Ultra settings Ryzen Rig 1 in sig for GTA5

My budget was £200 for graphic card. I see new GTX1080 @ £300 on Amazon would this be a better choice with it being a older generation of card i would get better resolutions

That's disappointing to hear since a heavily OC'ed 580 should be quite a bit more powerful than my couldn't OC for shit GTX 970 was. I guess some games have big brand preferences though.

OK, so now I know you're in the UK... as am I.  If you can stretch to £300 and the 1080 is that price... it's not a bad deal... as I've seen the 1070 going for more than that still.... I've just seen the gigabyte 1080 G1 on Amazon for £300 but it's not amazon selling it and you've got an extra £14 shipping on top of that... So be wary of such a 'great' deal from 3rd party sellers.

 

Amazon warehouse currently have the same card for sale for £292 and I've bought plenty of stuff from amazon warehouse over the years... Only had 10% of it being bad (mainly HDD/SSD deals).

Mine was the Sapphire Pulse 580... and it's currently running stock speeds in my mediaserver now I've upgraded to the 5700XT on my gaming rig.

 

Stock speeds were 1366 core and 2000 mem I think.... and I was running around the 1450/2250 mark. It was running hot though and I had to replace the thermal paste which got me roughly an 11ºC drop in temps.

 

Also worth noting that with GTA V... CPU is a major factor as it's very heavily reliant on single thread performance and can easily bottleneck... But if you are considering a budget card... I'm gonna assume that the rest of the system is either a little older or also budget oriented stuff.

 

As @op  if you've got a £300 budget... have you considered the 5700 as you're getting into that price range now, of for about 30-40 less than that you could get the 5600XT... But do some research on those as I've seen some brands have issues with cooling and there's the whole messed up launch vbios factor to consider with the 5600XT range.... basically AMD pushed a new bios for them that gave a 10-15% boost in performance.

I 100% agree with getting amazon warehouse stuff. I’ve bought a ps4 pro, ps4 slim and a one x that were listed as like new that showed up brand new and had a hefty discount on it.
