EVGA AIO functioning but not detected? RGB not working! Help?!

Hey everyone!

A few days ago I installed my EVGA CLC 280 280mm AIO in my build and as you can see it’s advertised as “RGB” but, while it is functioning fine and keeping my CPU cool, when I try to go into EVGA’s Flow Control software to adjust the RGB it says “device not detected”. ?

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I want to change the colors on it to something other than white but I don’t know what could be wrong if the AIO is functioning properly and just not being detected?

Please help! Thanks! ?

Did you connect the usb cable?

Yeah! I connected everything

Would it even work without connecting the USB cable? Because it works and runs fine. The only thing it doesn’t do is RGB control. ?

Since you connected everything, can you please show us where on the motherboard you connected the USB 2.0 header coming from the pump block? At least in this picture I can see that it is not where I would expect it to be.

And yes, the pump and lights would work without the USB cable since it get its power from a fan header.

Yeah for sure, let me open up my case and undo some of the twist ties and I’ll show you a pick of where it’s plugged in.

I actually don’t see anything labeled USB header. I had it plugged into “Pump Fan”.

Can you circle on this picture where the USB header is? ?

I see JUSB plugins but those don’t have the right 4 pin sockets to plug it into.

So was it plugged in already, or did you just plug it in? your photos are kind of all over the place making it hard to know what happened when. (for example, in the photo below, there is a stray USB2 header dangling on the top right)

Yeah the stray was plugged into Pump Fan so I moved it down to the bottom USB header via the back.

The problem is even when I did that I still get “device not found.” ?

Try re-install the software, since you installed it without the device plugged in.

Also just to put it out there, I have no idea how and why you decided to plug a USB2 header into a fan header. You may well have fried the USB header on the block as a result since the pinout is VERY different. If this is messed up at a hardware level, there is nothing you can do but accept that you've broken the RGB control portion of the hardware.

Because it was my first build and I made a mistake.

I saw four pinholes on there and thought “Well it’s connected to the pump so I should plug it into the pump fan slot.”

Well, I hope you get lucky and it isn't a dead port. If re-installing yields nothing, I do not have anything else to suggest.

I’ve actually read on EVGA forums that it could be an issue with Corsair programs and products affecting it.

So I think you were right about having damaged the USB cable when I plugged it in wrong.

But fortunately, after I told EVGA what happened, they agreed to send me another one.

Now that’s some great customer service! ?

Replacing the cable won't do much for you if it actually fried the usb header on the waterblock, which is more likely than the cable going bad since you plugged it into a 12v fan header.

Can’t hurt to try. ??‍♂️

Worst case (get it?) scenario is I can’t use the RGB Control on my AIO.

But it still works in regards to keeping my CPU cool, which is its main function and purpose.
