Reusing Apple G3 (not G3 Power)

MK29

So, I am just interested, if somebody already tried, building a AIO-PC into an Apple G3. I have seen a video 2/3 years ago by a German YouTuber called Alexi Bexi, where he reused a Macintosh, and built an AIO-Gaming-PC inside of it. Just curious and maybe, if possible, a plan for the future.

G3 as in big white “ice” plastic semi see through box thing?

Iirc it’s been attempted.  Not done.  Just attempted.  It was a long time ago.  My memory is the thing only looks like it’s made of plastic.  It’s actually a heavy steel frame with the plastic plates just clipped to it. Angle grinding and welding is involved because the thing bears zero relation to atx and has to be more or less converted.

the other option is the beige mac-in-a-box.  Yes. They actually had kits to do it with.  You gained a ton of space from pulling the crt.  Made things much easier.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Are you thinking maybe of one of these?

I never messed with those.  I got no idea what is in them.

i can tell you that either one of these

is a really bad idea.  I used to own something Nd similar to the one on the left and I watched someone fail to convert the one on the right into something useful.

G3 Blue and White (right of 2nd pick. Same applies to all G3/G4 desktops of that form factor) is not impossible, but you can fit a LOT less hardware in there than you want to. MATX motherboards are a hard maybe, retaining the ODD is a flat no 90% of the time, and TFX or FlexATX are your best PSU bets if you want any CPU Cooler clearance. Ive done a G4 conversion, it is 100% not worth. There are WAY cooler cases out there that take less work, including most other mac desktops.

I would wager G4 cube mods are easier once you get over finding a thin-ITX board.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)
