Can a Windows 8 Pro OEM Key activate Windows 7 Ultimate?

No, only a Windows 7 key will activate Windows 7.

However a Windows 7 key will activate Windows 10 still.

Has anyone experience with this?

I'm trying to activate a (already installed) copy of Win7 in order to upgrade to Windows 10.

Depending on what works I'll buy a 8 or 10 key. I'm pretty sure that a 10 Key won't work to activate 7

Or is there another way to Upgrade to Win10 without having to reinstall Windows?

Is there a particular reason you don't want to just re-install?

But no, Win 10/8 keys cannot be used to activate Win 7.

I'd recommend a clean install.

Yeah, that's what I feared. I won't get a Ultimate Key for cheap, barely found a Home Premium Key.

As far as i can tell you installing windows 10 from fresh is a way better experience than upgrading ,(especially if you are using a ssd)

True, but that means more work for tech support (me).

Relatives that can barely use computers are the best

Thanks guys

Just an FYI, you don't need to activate Windows 7 to upgrade to 10 before hand

I tried it earlier today. The Update Assistant requires a valid Windows 7 License in order to continue. I think it *was* the case while the official Windows 7 to 10 Update period.
