I know, but loses the purpose to have phone built like so, makes it less compact too. I also don't watch a lot of video and such, but oh boy is it an eye sore full screen. I also can't stop noticing it in general use hah.

Sony did it the best, actually higher 21:9 ratio which is also an actual standard and no notch. I wonder what they'll reveal new.

I'm not at all a fan of 21:9. Makes the phone way too tall. I really think 163mm ish is the absolute max I'd want in a phone before it really becomes a pain to carry around.

With a smaller screen, the Sony phones 6.5" screens are at 168mm compared to the Note 10+ at 163mm.

I mean, people were moaning about large phones since the largest 16:9 and continued when they increased ratio. 21:9 is at least an actual standard for content, many big phones are all around the same sizes anyway, few mm is nothing.

Yeah but if you compare it at the same size screen, then you'd have a phone over 170mm. That's substantial, and definitely noticeable.

Nah, many already said 16:9 5" was already huge when it came to be, and now when I look everyone carry such big devices anyway, many of them small hands. When there were very large 16:9 phones some said they're too wide to hold. There are already much larger phones out there even, insane sizes.

Huge for the time yes, but still manageable. Pockets are only so big, and even the Note5 stuck out a bit. There is a limit.

There will always be outliers for those that want them, but it doesn't mean they'll work for most people.

Hmm ye, don't know about your pockets but in mine any can fit :D. Yes there is a limit but no I wouldn't say few mm because of 21:9 is. Really, I'd like to see 16:9 that are compact, yet they didn't slim the body to it but started increasing display area, while also some increasing size too. Personally I'd like that there are choices between 16:9 and 21:9 though.

Don't know if you knew, you can get the idea of size comparisons on displaywars.com for fun.

Many large phones are kind of phablet territory these days being around 7" more or less.

Well I mean...if you wanted more display, you had to do that. You can't just wish under display cameras into existence. Apparently it does affect the quality a little, but I mean...it's first gen. It's not going to be perfect. You don't like the pop up option? If you hardly use it, it seems just as useful as the under display.

Personally i love the pop up style. But only because like you mention i dont use the front camera ever.

It is another point of failure though if you do use it.

But id rather they got rid of the front camera instead of notches and what not.

Somewhat off topic question, but I've always been curious: If the electronically controlled glass opacity like this is commodity enough to throw it on a smartphone, why don't we make eyeglasses out of it? It seems like it'd be a whole lot less obnoxious than transition lenses and if Oneplus is putting it on a phone then I have to assume the power draw is low enough to use something like a watch battery in the side arms.

Yeah, me too. I don't use the front camera that often, but I definitely do, so it's nice to have it there and out of the way.

It'd make absolutely no sense to remove it entirely though; if they did that they'd basically throw away whatever product it was on.

Most people don't want to have to charge their glasses. What happens if you get stuck with it in a tinted state? Where are you going to store the battery so as it's not madly uncomfortable? Useless.

Maybe I'm just way off on what order of magnitude of power this sort of glass requires, but I'm saying something like a small watch battery behind one or both of the arms that go behind the ears, that hopefully wouldn't need to be changed for months. Tons of glasses, especially nowadays, have wide enough arms to accommodate a battery back there plus internal wiring running to the lenses.

Again, I may be way off on how much power is required, but I've always been led to believe that it's sort of on the same scale as E-ink.

Also, if you asked people 10 years ago if they'd be willing to charge their watch every night then I'd imagine that most would think you're crazy.

Personally whatever they do is fine as long as the price is right.
OnePlus started as a company that made a "flagship quality phone" at an "affordable price" (and then made up the profits selling your data to the Chinese government* ?).
This... does not look like it will stick to that. Shame, I've had 2 OnePlus phones (in fact they're the ONLY phones I've had) and they've been great.

If that's not the case, no problem. Just looks like (to me) they're going that way.

*in no way is this confirmed or even rumoured (afaik)

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)
