Why would you want to put a 770 in an old PC? Seems like a waste.

That does not really matter as much as most think. It is technically possible to install a 780ti into a Pentium 4 machine assuming the motherboard has a PCIe x16 (physical) slot for it. It would not make much sense, unless you were only utilizing it for CUDA accelleration (or anything else that does not offload on the CPU, like mining or folding).

@Stampkonijn

Yes, it is possible. You will not see full use in games if the cpu is bottlenecking it in any way. If you are only using the GPU as a compute card, then it will not matter so much on the CPU end though. If it has a PCIe x16 physical slot, then the card should function (unless the motherboard BIOS does not recognize it).

Definitely depends on how old. PCI-e wasn't introduced until around 2004 and even then there were still tons of motherboards still running AGP. You need a PCI-e socket in order to run a modern graphics card.

How can I see the difference between AGP and PCI-e? Sorry im kind of really unknown with computers and stuff:/

What is bottleneck..? Is that that the processor cant handle the data the graphics card sends to it?

its when the CPU is so slow that it lowers fps.

Make sure your old pc case has enough space lol. (I'm assuming it's an old office desktop)

PCI-e is a little longer and thinner and the slots are different, to put it in simple terms.

My specs are:

Mobo: Acer Aspire M5630 MBSA509009

CPU: Intel core i2 duo e8400

Graphic card: NVIDIA g96

(Did I forget something..? I think I did...)

Edit - I forget the PSU. It supplies 250 watt. The one that i want to buy is a 600 watt PSU.

I recently put a Gainward GTX 770 along with a 650W PSU in an old PC. It ran fine for about 30 seconds, then went *poof* and both the GTX 770 and two sticks of ram where dead. No idea what caused it, but I'm definitely not doing that again.

E8400 IS SO POPULAR LIKE WHY

lol in all seriousness though, the 770 would bottleneck the CPU. I have a Lenovo with E8400 and it was bottlenecking the 560Ti I tried to upgrade it with. So I ended up getting a used Core 2 Quad Acer and put the 560Ti in that instead. It's near hitting the limits of that CPU too but hey it's way better then the dual core.

The E8400 by the way, is almost identical performance to the A6-5400K.

"Rawr XD"
