Hardware reserved RAM after Dual Channeling

Rotta

I tried to dual channel my RAM by placing the sticks on slots 2 and 4, but every time I have tried to do so, hardware reserves 8GB.

I have been playing with single channel for a long time but I think that has caused me lower FPS.

Check the proper slots to use in your motherboard's manual. If correct a stick or slot may be faulty, try them one at a time to find out.

Yeah it was just the casual A1, A2, B1, B2.

I changed the slots for the ram sticks and now hardware doesnt reserve any.

I did this before and the problem popped up later so Ill keep an eye on it and bump this later if I have any issues.

Thanks for helping!

What board is it? What memory? You're at least the 3rd one with 50% memory is reserved when using dual-channel this week, another one had a completely defective channel. So, it does work o.k. when you use slot 3+4 instead of 2+4? Are you using 1+3 now?

Yeah on 3+4 worked perfectly except its single channel, 2+4 didnt work at all.

Now I put my RAM on 1+3 and it works.

I have an ASUS Strix B350-F Gaming

So it suggests there might be an issue with slot 2 on the mobo.

EDIT: Yeah I could probably ask for warranty but I dont know if its worth it to remove my MOBO just to fix the 2nd slot.
