I never buy them.

Buying an extended warranty is a bad bet. If you have done proper research and know you are getting a quality product the chances you will use it are almost nil. Retailers push them because they are very profitable ... for the retailer as well as whoever is actually backing up the paper.  The only plus to having the extended warranty vs manufacture warranty is they usually come with a full replacement so your downtime is minimal should there be a problem.

Warranty or insurance?

Because the first you get from the manufacturer of the parts (or store if you're from a place that does it like that, like the EU). If the latter, it depends... But usually no.

Unless you're planning on being very unsafe with your equipment, you don't need any additional insurance.

if you can afford it and want the piece of mind $40 isnt much money. But it really depends on what that warranty covers.

If its $40 and for two years it covers anything (like you can literally pour water on it while running) then thats $40 well spent. Also if your getting it at a local retailer it may be worth it to avoid downtime. doing an rma through a company can take weeks. some local stores will let you trade out a bad part same day.

If its the same as the manufacturers warranty then its a waste of $40.

So without seeing the terms its hard to say.
