As we all know AMD is hugely ahead of Intel in terms of cpu, and I was wondering what that means for my system with an i5 8600k. Is it really outdated? I only got it about a year ago so all of this AMD stuff is really making me nervous.

I'd love your opinions,

Henry

What's to worry about? You already own it. Use it until it doesn't work anymore. If youre wondering how it performs, look at 9600k benchmarks vs 3700x in new games. It's basically the same thing. Should be fine for the next couple years at least for gaming specifically. Presuming you are only gaming, or else you probably wouldn't have got the 8600k in the first place.

??

They have more cores for the price but single thread is still slightly behind...

not sure where you got the 'hugely ahead' part.

Are newer systems more powerful than you almost 2 year old i5? Yes. Do you need to upgrade? Probably not. If it works for you, keep using it until it doesn't.

It's not any worse than it was when you bought it, it's just newer CPU's have gotten better... Obviously.

Your CPU is still quite comparable to a Ryzen 3600(X), just with less cores. Does that matter to you? I don't know..

If you want to upgrade, do it. If you don't need to? Why should you worry?
