How often should my connection be "down for maintainence"?

Lucky for us in Australia that our ACCC, Justice  system, etc are all very well isolated from the government.  Especially in comparison to other countries.  We often have the ACCC taking corporations to court and winning,  and the high court overturn government policy (forcing them to drop it or take it back the parliament and have the entire parliament change the laws).

I heard good things about the ACCC.

We have those in the US. They don’t do shit. When the telecoms pump enough money in to the government they can pretty much get away with bending the customers over.

The system in the US has failed, mass shootings and ridiculously expensive health care - which in the western world only the US has those problems.

That's good to know, I'm on NBN so I might investigate my options there. Telstra in notoriously bad for customer experience so it would be nice to have some choice.

Good luck :)

Likely not, but he’s totally got us on the ridiculously expensive health care.  It’s literally like twice as expensive as anywhere else.  And it isn’t any better unless you’re rich and can do concierge medicine.  Takes a month to see a doctor here just like everywhere else.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Happens to me quite a bit.  Not all the time. More often it’s more like 2-3weeks.  May depend on what doctors you need to see.  Try finding a decent neurologist in less than a month.  To go to a famous place like mayo you have to fill out an application and mail it.  There is an essay section.

Could be where you live.  Or you maybe have the concierge type like in “royal pains”.  I dunno.  If you live in a big city you got to wait a while, generally.  There are specialists though.

Oh yeah I bet a neurologist would take a little more time because there is not many of them. yeah mayo is a good point didn't think of that one much though I think if the problem is bad enough you can get in quick

Possible.  They only take “interesting cases”.

Naturally I can't guarantee a good experience, but everyone I know who's with ABB have been very happy with their performance in support and service.

This is unusually funny because when I googled “abb” I got a Swiss robotics company.  1F3709CD-C08F-4178-B825-1ABF183371B4.jpeg.db0a089eaaf21e175a20debb54ca3a8d.jpeg

Aussie Broadband - ABB   they started as a small ISP in the country, they made customer support their trade mark, they are still a country run ISP however they are now one of Australia's largest and still focus on customer support.  They worked out happy customers don't leave, they have essentially gold plated their services from ensuring they have enough bandwidth to provide what they sell and all their call centres are in Australia (big win for consumer happiness here).  They have become so successful they are about to float on the ASX.
