Android phone for a non gamer.

mrchow19910319

Whats the "good enough" android phone from xiao mi or one plus that a non gamer should get?

Provided that someone who just want to use their phone for some daily tasks.

Does not have a strong need for a superb camera.

Is the redmi note 8 or note 8 pro good enough??

I am looking for a budget option.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Out of my budget. I choose Xiaoxi cos it has localROM. At least I have a back up rom.  Stock android is the dream but in my country a lot of apps does not run well on it.

I have the mi 9SE which I like personally because it isn't so huge. I guess the note 8 should do fine for all the basic stuff as well and it's cheaper.

K20 is meant for Chinese market and has the Chinese rom (has ads). The Mi 9T is the one really meant for sale outside of China. Runs a cleaner ROM with no ads. There are slight hardware differences like the cell radio.

A lot of sellers advertising Mi 9T are actually K20's with Global/EU ROM installed. The lazy ones don't even bother and just install Google Store onto the K20.

The Pro versions of the phones (SD 855) are called K20 Pro and Mi 9T Pro respectively.

Thanks for the clarification.

What do you want in a phone though? The Mi 9T might not be the best for you case. What you currently use and what about it isn't good enough?

I just want to give android a try and ditch apple once and for all.

Do you think note 8 pro will get as many stable custom ROM as snapdragon devices???

I think MediaTek's chip is not known for its support for custom ROM right?

I heard that this time the Helio G90 T is pretty good when it comes to performance.

Well, wanting to try Android doesn't mean you can't act on your opinion of your existing iPhone. Having plenty of options to choose from, means there is something out there that meets most if not all of your whims.

I don't know. It is quite a popular phone. And it already got a custom recovery for it. All that's left is for Xiaomi to release kernal sources for it for the modding community to start making custom ROMs. I know they will make at least a few roms if allowed to. But a number that competes with the likes of OnePlus and Samsung flagships? I doubt it. Only time will tell.

That does not mean there is no room for improvement. For example battery life, charging speed, screen, headphone jack, internal storage, overall design. Some of these matter more to you. Having accepted a shortcoming does not mean its not a shortcoming.

I want my next phone to have microSD card support.

And for the coming years get good support outside of official ROM. I don't trust official ROM to do good on a phone after the 1st 2 years. So Lineage OS is probably gonna be my best laid plan.

Charging speed the faster the better. I am now having a 65W USB C charger that can charge my laptop on the go. So, if I can use one charger for all devices it would be great.

Screen I dont have any preferences, 1080P is good enough. I dont need higher than that. But I have heard someone said cheap OLED is bad for your eyes. I have never used a android device for long term so I dont know whether it is true or not.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
