Black Friday rig planning

Unilision

1. Budget & Location

Canada; $1500~ CAD excluding the monitor cost

2. Aim

General usage would be along the lines of schoolwork and gaming on a 3440x1440 monitor

3. Monitors

1, for the time being. I'm thinking of getting the MSI Optix MAG341CQ 3440x1440 monitor

4. Peripherals

Leaving those asides on a different budget, and OS will be receiving elsewhere.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I'm currently using a macbook pro 2017, don't have a desktop.

This is what I was thinking at the moment, still waiting till thursday night for the sales to be listed and re-configuring it based on what's on sale. However I'd like recommendation on parts that would work/be more ideal to get instead. If it's possible to keep the RGB parts in the selection as well.

Thank you for any recommendations/opinions that any can give. Have a good day !

what games exactly

and what school work, because school can mean multi media school that does editing and streaming and lots of heavy, intensive usage.

first off, ditch intel, go with amd, like a 3600 cpu, and ram speed should be 3600. mobo should be in the $125-$150 range

you can cheap out on the case, and to cheap out you can stay with 2x8GB

be sure your psu is of good quality, refer to the psu tier list for that.

  • I'd go AMD over Intel in this bracket.
  • Seems high for a semi-modular PSU.
  • The RX 5700 XT would be a more powerful card.
  • Storage is usually super cheap on BF, I'd spend a little more and get a 4TB drive (often $99 or less).
  • I wouldn't get an MSI motherboard.
  • I'd get a better cooler. Something like a Noctua U14.

why is that?

that bullzoid guy lists preferred mobos as tied for first, msi and gigabyte, but he over clocks like a mad man

Games wise, your typical f2p games like League/BnS/Archeage/PoE occasional steam games like Nier: Automata/Code Vein and the like.

School work, is just microsoft words/excel and so on. I see, thank you

Oh, I haven't been keeping up with all the newer parts, and not many people I know used AMD, so haven't looked into it as of late but that's good to know though, and are you referring to the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 ?

yes, its a good deal, but if you want to cheap out, the Ryzen 2600 is only $100-$110 so half the price.

and for PSU wise, would 550 be enough for this kind of rig, or would getting 650 be better ?

Performs better.

MSI motherboards, in my experience, have been trash. Poor BIOS, faulty components, etc.

Okay thank you for your input. Also to ask you or anyone reading this, would anyone here happen to have any experience with RGB fans? Which would aren't too loud and have a good software to them ?

I highly suggest this AMD old chips are still extremely powerful and close in ipc to newer chips. the 8 core r7 1700 I have seen for as chip as 160 buck and thats just insane. The 2600 is on sale for 115 in America. again thats just nuts is soo worth it to go back a gen for half the price if not less.

Abysmal personal experiences. I'll never recommend an MSI board again.
