Is 32gb RAM an overkill for my computer?

ApusDot

I have a very slow system and I was thinking adding 16gb more of more RAM could give it a kick.

HP pro 6300 SFF

i7-3770 (non K) It's a very old system so this is the fastest CPU my mobo can use.

GTX 1050 ti 4gb

16gb DDR3 Ram

500 gb SSD

So, is 32gb RAM an overkill for this? Thanks

I mainly use it for 1080p video processing, but some gaming here and there. Currently playing Destiny 2.

P.S: Question, other than cpu, gpu, and ram, what else can give a system like this a bump in performance? Thanks in advance.

For video processing a ram increase is useful. I also ended up with 32gb of ram in my last gaming PC, mainly because DDR3 had become pretty cheap

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I play destiny 2 as well and from my experience the ram amount isnt the issue with performance, the game doesnt take much ram and definently doesnt need more than 16gb

Other than an upgrade to gpu or cpu i dont know what else would boost performance,

For normal gaming, especially DDR3, 16 gb can do most things just fine. I would save your money for upgrading the motherboard ,cpu ,and getting new DDR4 than spend it on more DDR3.

If you look at task manager and your ram isn't at 100% then adding annother 16GB will do literally nothing to speed things up.

If you want a faster system start by doing a clean install and wiping everythin so you know that software is not a factor.

Then start with the CPU or GPU.

If you want speed, then you'll need a sata solid state drive, but 32gb of ram would be awesome.  I7 3770 is still nice. Get something better than a gtx 1050ti. Gtx 1070 would get you ray tracing. That would be a pretty cool prebuilt. Make sure your bios is up to date.
