Can i slot a wireless network adapter into an pciex4 slot?

Hi everybody,

i'm preparing myself into my first pc build (waiting for ssd and ram), but i've ran into a problem. While i was dry placing my motherboard (gigabyte b450m ds3h) and gpu i noticed that it covers my pciex1 slot which as i understand is meant to be used as the optimal slot for a wireless network adapter (running cable from the modem isn't an option for me), but i'm left with the bottom pciex4 slot, where i can't really slot my gpu cause it wouldn't fit in and if it would it would be scraping the bottom of the case. So now i'm asking can i slot my network adapter in to the pciex4 slot and if yes, do i need to do something to get it to work or is it fine from the get go?

All help will be appreciated and have a nice day,

Damian

You can use 1x card in any PCIE slot you want. Heck, if you were to cut the end of pcie 1x slot on your motherboard you can even run a graphics card at 1x.
