Hi  everyone :)

I have an old GTX 660ti (vBios upgraded to the latest version) that shows bad signs:

 - On macOS, I get occasional glitches that go away when I use the mouse to select the area that shows these little green/purple squares

 - On windows, no glitches but sometimes the monitor goes black and then back ON. Sometimes it doesn't go back on until I turn the monitor OFF and then ON again.

I tried to remove the fans and radiators and reapply thermal paste on the GPU chip. No significant change...

Is this card going to the trash or is there anything I could try to salvage it?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Best,

-a-

Trash. Your gpu is old and think that its time to upgrade.

My old 750ti showed me those signs. Replaced with another 750ti and it worked.

You could try underclocking its RAM first and if that doesn't help, underclock its GPU and see if that helps make it run stable.

I mean, you could always try and sell it... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

LoL, i though that too. Imagine gettin like 50bucks from selling half broken gpu to somebody.

Thats scamming, but since many people scam these days so try and sell it.

Some people (including myself) buy broken PC parts and then fix them so they can get a really nice deal out of them.

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

You could try baking it to get a few more months out of it.

Yeah... but no thank you.

I've plenty of more modern GPU's. Money isn't the issue here. It's more that I'd like to avoid trashing something that could still be used (and that would be better than the iGPU

That would be done via BIOS settings, right?

No, you'd use Afterburner to adjust the card's settings. You can crank both the GPU-clocks and VRAM-clocks all the way down, it won't break anything, and if that fixes the issues, you'll know the problem is there -- most likely VRAM. Then you just crank them slowly back up until you start getting issues again.

Thank you so much :)

Is there anyway to do that on mac? It would be a whole lot easier to test since the symptoms on Windows are much more random.

No idea, I don't have a Mac or use them or anything.
