Can you update bios without Cpu!?

So yeah, is it possible to update the bios on my motherboard Asus Rog Strix B350-F Gaming, without a Cpu?

Nope.

Only boards that support this are the ones with BIOS Flashback, which is not that common.

No, you'll need a currently supported CPU to update it first before you put in the 3000 series chip.

Only if the box says "Ryzen 3000 support", which I doubt it does. If it was produced late in the B350 life, it might support Ryzen 2000... but B350 weren't made anymore when Ryzen 3000 came out.

You're either gonna have to:

- Get an older Ryzen chip (e.g. through AMD's RMA process thing)

- get a newer board that does support Ryzen 3000 out of the box

You can also ask any place that sells PC parts to update it for you, it's cheaper then buying a new motherboard and also quicker.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

If it was Ryzen 3000 (or even 2000) compatible it would be an image kinda like this one the front:

(usually bottom left of the packaging front).

No, that won't work. That's an AM3+ CPU. This is an AM4 board.

You need something Ryzen 1000, or maybe Ryzen 2000 if the box of the board says it is compatible.

Either go to a store and have them update it (may be free, may cost you some money) or do this:

Yep.

Update to the right bios with the Ryzen 1200 and then you can use a Ryzen 3600

You don't really need to buy anything. AMD can loan you a processor so you can update your bios.

Or do what others have suggested. Look for a local shop and have them update it for you. It will cost a bit but it's better than nothing.

Problem is there is No local shop i can visit i live in southern denmark and i have to drive 2 hours to get to the nearest, so if i only have to spend a little bit of Cash on an amd  Ryzen 3 1200, and it works im okay with it :)

So i guess it works right?

Ah, I see. Quite the predicament there. So yeah, getting the Ryzen 1200 will be more practical. At least you'll have a backup processor for testing and other stuff.

What about an AMD A6-9500?  Yeah it's lower performance than the Ryzen 3 1200, but it, like the Athlon 200GE that's currently mentioned in the boot kit info, has integrated graphics (so you can boot without a video card or if your GPU dies), and unlike the 200GE which requires a BIOS update for 300-series boards, should work natively on a B350.
