My neighbor has an old HDD from many years ago and it's a PATA HDD.

I looked online and the only PATA to USB adapters look complicated. What's the easiest way to plug this thing into my PC to get old pics out of it?

PATA, like IDE?

In general, it's easiest to get either:

- HDD dock: some fit for SATA also have IDE connectors. Generally these are the older USB 2.0 models which can only accept up to 2TB drive. Should be around 30 euros

- IDE to USB: since you need to power the device too, there is usually a power adapter included and some device the HDD, power adapter and USB cable plug into.

- IDE to SATA: provided you have molex on your PSU, an adapter like this will allow you to plug the drive into a SATA port. Should be around 20 euros or so, from experience

- Using an old PC with that connector: not that reliable, since you need an old working machine and also need to be able to transfer files from that.
