CPU to pair w/2060 super

Hello everyone.

 

I just got a 2060 super and at the moment it sits with the following rig:

 

I5 6600

Z170 (ddr3 ram compatible)

16gb RAM

 

I am thinking of upgrading as follows:

 

I5 9400F

B360 (which one i don't know)

16gb ddr4

 

So my questions are:

Is the above pairing any good?

Should i choose something different?

I do not plan to overclock so i don't know if going for an I5 9600k is worth the price difference.

 

My main usage is gaming.

I have a 27inch 2k monitor @ 144hz and i would like to have the best possible resolution/fps

 

Please advise

You'd be far better off performance and value wise with a R5 3600 on a B450.

I've red about the AMD performance but i'd rather stick w/INTEL

Why? paying a premium for a worse product doesn't sound very good money management.

 

Intel is only justified nowadays if you got the money to afford the i7 9700K or i9 9900K and is pairing it with a far faster GPU that can actually utilize the better CPU performance like a 2080 Super / 2080 Ti.

 

Anything lower than that and AMD is the obvious choice in value and performance.

Can you specify the prices on your country then so we have a better understanding?

Yes it is and a Ryzen 5 3600 has superior single core performance than an i5 9400F

The difference is about 60-70euro. So by adding another 30-40euro to that difference i also get a decent b360.

but when you look at decent "mid range" performance i'd stick to my 3600 all day long

Right, that's what I meant.  If I see 2080Ti in title, I instantly go with 9900K.  9400F isn't on my list of recommends at all.

 

I agree with the rest of this as well.  If AMD is expensive for the OP, I get it.

For the same amount of money that i can find R5 3600 + B450, i can get the 9400f + b360 + 16gb ddr4 thus my hezitation

Can you sell your current rig to take some of the sting out of it?

 

I mean, get the 9400f setup if that fits your budget but you're playing in the upper mid-range here and it can get pricey for the performance you want.

what amount of money are we talking about and where are you from? so we can see what is availabe to you and for how much?

 

as i understand it the intel way would "save you" about 70-100 bucks? right? (what you spend on ram)

I can get the i5 + mobo + 16gb ram for 240-250€ whereas the AMD will be the same amount without the ram

A b360 either gigabyte aorus or tuf or asus rog gaming f or prime. For ram I am fan of corsair so I am thinking for vengeance at 2666 (don't care for oc)

Ryzen 5 3600 + B450 MSI Pro Carbon or Tomahawk + 3600mhz CL16.

 

Nobody can argue thats the best thing you can buy right now for the money.

get a r5 3600 and pair it with a 3600mz cl16 kit. theres a g skill one for $85 that I use.

The 85$ you mention is for USA I guess because for Greece in Newegg it says 97€ and I don't even know the transfer cost

i forgot to mention how much it would be in other locations but... this is still the cheapest kit in this category. 3200mz will work fine tho
