should I change from Intel to AMD?

mxk

Hello other forum users,

I've been thinking about if I should sell my 8086k, Z390 aorus pro, and maybe my 16gb of 2666mhz RAM. I say this because AMD has good offerings right now and I only paid $210 for the 8086k. Since the build isn't done I just wondering, would it be worth it in any way to change to AMD? I'm 1080p gaming at 144hz and also doing moderately heavy editing in sony vegas.

everything is new, though I know I'll lose on the memory and motherboard.

Based on the 8086k prices for new I'll make money and stay closer to neutral with the money made and lost

Well you'll definitely make money on the CPU...but, no. AMD has some nice stuff, sure, but you likely don't need the cores, and your gaming performance won't really be increased. Just stick with what you have. Why do you want to change? You haven't really given a reason.

Its not like the 3700X or the 3900X are that much more faster, unless you really need the extra cores for editing I'd just save the money and stick with the 8086K

And in terms of the games you play, CSGO favors Intel slightly for whatever reason and GTA V has such crap optimisation that it really doesn't matter what CPU you have (AMD or Intel, as long as it isn't some bargain basement dual-core it'll be fine)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600  Heatsink: ID-Cooling Frostflow X GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 6GB RAM: KLEVV Bolt 3600Mhz (2x8GB) Mobo: ASUS B550-F ROG Strix (Wifi)  Case: Fractal Design Meshify C PSU: Deepcool DQ-M-V2L

Thanks for the answer

and I guess I was asking because I haven't really been keeping up with where Zen 2 places against Intel now since I've been busy with school.

You'd be amazed at how many games are poorly optimized

And sometimes its not just games, sometimes its just Windows being crap at utilizing all the cores at its disposal

no that cpu should do you fine. 6 cores 12 threads high clock speeds. not a big issue.
if you really want a better editing you could go to something like a 3900x which would make way more sense. since the 3700x/3800x are only at 2 more cores and so 4 more threads. while the 3900x would be double the cores.
but you would lose again gaming performance.

sure eventually we will need more cores but i would give that another 2 / 3 years. non of the current games fully utilize any of the cores on my 2600x either. so there is no point in upgrading it.
