Need clarifications regarding RAM's "lifetime" warranty

just checked corsairs warranty site out of curiosity and they specifically say "warranty for the lifetime of the product" so i guess it will behave similar with other manufacturers

Anyone mind to explain what exactly "lifetime" warranty is for RAM? ?


Let's say that I have a RAM from G.Skill and it suddenly stopped working after X time.

Will I get a replacement unit if the product itself is no longer being produced?
Do I just request an RMA and they will send the replacement unit after they verify it?

Is it the lifetime of the user or the lifetime of the product and how long is it actually?

Even in the warranty section of G.Skill's website does not state how long "lifetime" actually is... so...

This seems to be the same for other manufacturer as well... including Kingston etc.

You can always ask G.Skill directly. It's their warranty.

 

I'd go by direct info than hearsay any day.

Right, I don't actually use any G.Skill product(s) as of now and I wanted to know the general meaning of "lifetime" warranty for RAMs
guess I'll just go ask the manufacturers as you recommended ?

That';s why I suggested that because lifetime can mean some arbitrary timespan they designate as the useful life like we do in accounting amortizations.  Or it can be life of the product, which is basically forever.

 A lot of RAM manufacturers offer lifetime warranties because RAM is much harder to kill than something like a CPU. 

 

And no manufacturer sets their warranty to the lifetime of the user.  The only product that behaves like that is life insurance.

It's a limited lifetime warranty so while technically the warranty will last for your lifetime, the limitations are put down below.
