RTX Not required to trace these Rays!

JoJo665

Game development company Wargaming™ has done the impossible, they have traced rays in a game at 60FPS with out using DXR or RT cores. Wargaming™ achieves this using their home brewed game engine. The "Encore" engine allows the processor to utilize Intel's Embree technology. This allows for real time ray tracing on DX11. So yes you can ray trace on AMD cards.

Incorrect thread formatting.

Also, I hope this gets ported to world of warships as well, it seems like WoT runs better than WoWs these days when it was the other way around before the engine change.

They only used RT on shadows, so it shouldn't be compared to games that use RT on reflections if not the entire lighting system, like BF5. Still it's impressive that they made good use of new tech, something many devs can't say for themselves

So now when will they fix their game balance? Never I know

As the first step we chose to include Ray Tracing shadows for the "main actors" of our game — tanks, the intact vehicles (not destroyed ones); their smallest details will give super-realistic shadows when the sun hits them.

So does this mean that the tanks have 2 states: 1 intact, 1 destroyed (like a model switch) or do they progressively take damage, and then the ray tracing just stops working on them?

I'm interested in checking it out, but when I click a link to "Check it out", it loads a Russian site. Not particularly interested in the game, anyways, so I'm not too fussed about it. I'd be interested to see the performance a 1060 would get, though...

Does this mean you've replaced DirectX 12's DXR API, which should be manufacturer agnostic, with a proprietary, Intel specific, technology? ?

No one every said DXR/RTX was required to ray trace (it's been done on CPUs for decades after all), DXR simply allows it to be accelerated by a GPU (which Nvidia's RTX does, and AMD's own implementation should follow soon).

Wows is an inefficient mess.

I don’t think the game could handle Ray Tracing without a lot of optimizations. The port and looking at trees on islands in game sucks power and kicks out a lot of heat.

The weird thing is there is hardly anything on screen at any given moment. Just the ship model and basic textures.
