2700x vs 3600 or 2600x@100USD

Multicore they are roughly the same, but single core the 3600 is way ahead. I went with the 3600 for that reason because many programs are single threaded

Hey Guys, I'm currently looking at upgrading my rig, as of the moment, both the 2700x and 3600 are on sale for the same price at $194 on Amazon.

At the same time, a 2600x is on sale for $100 in my area via facebook market. I'm unsure on which processor would best suit my needs I and could use some advice.

I don't necessarily stream, but I do like to record my gameplay. Currently I use another GPU to record using Nvidia's NVENC (not sure if this info is important but I felt like I should share).

Primarily I will be using it for gaming. I plan on playing Cyberpunk 2077, and I mainly play LoL, OW, R6, Anno, and Civ.  Also Motherboard recommendations would help a bunch.

Current Rig:

i5 6600K

1080 SC2

1440P 144hz

Thanks for the read!

Ryzen 3600 + MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX

The 3600 is faster than the 2700X anyway, so for the same price it kind of depends do you want more but slightly slower cores or less but faster cores.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600  Heatsink: ID-Cooling Frostflow X GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 6GB RAM: KLEVV Bolt 3600Mhz (2x8GB) Mobo: ASUS B550-F ROG Strix (Wifi)  Case: Fractal Design Meshify C PSU: Deepcool DQ-M-V2L

I'd lean towards the 3600 myself. While fewer cores than the 2700X, the cores it does have are much faster. I'm also not seeing a need for 8 cores over 6 in this use case.

As a value option, I'd pair it with some B450 chipset mobo. Can't give a specific recommendation. I have an Asrock B450 Gaming-ITX/ac, but it might come at a premium for the ITX form factor and not be necessary for OP's build.

I would also budget for a better air cooler than the one it comes bundled with if you want to get the most out of the CPU, even without overclocking.
