Core i5 VS ryzen 7 in laptop. Which one should I choose?

Planning to get a gaming laptop for myself.

Which one should I choose between these two?

1.  Ryzen 7 3750h. 16G 512G SSD rtx 2060 120hz display. ASUS TUF

2.  I5 9300h 8g 512g ssd rtx 2060 144hz display. HP OMEN

I have no idea how these cpus perform. Could someone weight in their opinion?

oddly the second one is a bit more expensive than the 1st one.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

I feel like laptops have pretty heavy diminishing returns on the GPU

What's the price difference for a 1650 vs 2060 model(s)?

The i5 looks a bit faster than the Ryzen 7 CPU, just check benchmarks though.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Wait. Can a 1650 play Witcher 3 and get more than 60 fps? Or maybe I Gould opt for a 1660ti one.

The Ryzen is more power efficient but slightly less powerful. Not much difference...

You wont notice the difference between a 144hz ad 120hz obviously.

The biggest difference between these builds is the RAM.

Ram makes a notable difference in FPS and how smoothly your system runs. Suffice to say 8gb is kinda the absolute bare minimum. Hell i upgraded my Zephyrus G which also has a ryzen 7 3750 H from 8gb to 24GB( i went 24 instead of 16 for kicks, no reason) the first thing i got it so yeah

Without a doubt the Asus spec wise is a better buy.

1080p medium-high, more medium for the laptop version.

Actually, didn't the RX 5500 just come out or get announced? Because that should have radeon image upscaling, and you'd be able to cheat out more fps with that, was a bit faster than the RX 580 I think by rumors.

Also on a laptop you would be more CPU limited than normal for games, so even getting far past 100fps in AAA might become a challenge.

Thanks for the suggestion. J think I will go for the 2060 ones cos 1st I can’t wait for the newer gen to come out second this is gonna be my only computer for a long time. So I am prepared to pay up a bit more to make it last a bit longer performance wise.

There's always the external GPU route, but I'm not sure how that compares in price.

At least it won't have cooling problems.

$1200-1300 $700 thunderbolt 3 laptop, External GPU box $200 + $300 RX 5700

The 2060 doesn't seem too bad I'm some models, it looks to be around $1200-1300 as well

I wouldn't spend $2000 just for a mobile 120hz display though.
