Which AMD CPU should I choose?

I'm thinking of picking up either the 2700x or the 3600 in a couple months. I am a small content creator but I also like to game. I have an AsRock X470 SLI/AC motherboard and if needed I can flash it with my backup 2200g.

I am full aware of the 2 extra cores and 4 extra threads but with worse single threaded performance but thats where I was leaning to

depends on the game and graphics card. Unless you can regularly pump out 100fps with the GPU though there's little difference in gaming performance between 3rd gen and 2nd gen, besides outliers like Cities Skylines.

if high refresh rate gaming isn't your target (or hell, even if it is in some titles) the 2700 makes a good buy for the multipurpose gaming PC

What kind of content are you editing and what software are you using?

NCH videopad video editor. My current laptop with an i5-7300hq can encode a second of footage in about 5 seconds.

2700x is faster for encoding, 3600 is faster in everything else. I'd opt for the 3600 since it will still be plenty fast

Save up a little more and get the 3700x imo

MC has a spectacular deal on the 2700x for $160.   I picked mine up last week, and I am very impressed.   My first AMD in almost 10 years.   I don't know if I'm doing something wrong with my 9700k or the 2700x is just that good, but I'm getting better encoding numbers with my 2700x,   both are slightly OC.
