Trouble with Proton and Beamng Drive on Linux

LloydLynx

Edit: This is my first time starting the game

Upon starting the game normally or in safe mode, I get a "There is no valid rendering device available" message in a dialog box. I'm running the latest version of the Steam client through Flatpak and the latest Mesa drivers via PPA, as of Sept. 20 2019.

I have a suspicion it has something to do with Beamng.drive seeing my PC as a Windows XP machine running DX9, but I don't know what to do about it.

My system:

AMD FX-4300

Radeon R7 360 XFX

Kubuntu 19.04

2x4GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM

1TB 7200 rpm HDD

760GMA-P34 (FX)

Here's beamng-dxDiag.txt if that helps.

You probably have the wrong GPU drivers enabled in the kernel. I can't remember how to do it, but I do know that @Twilight helped me with this exact issue, and he'll probably help you out.

type in terminal: lspci -nnv

that will give you a massive list. look for your graphics card, and tell me what driver it's using. it's either amdgpu or radeon.

Thanks for getting me on the right track with that driver issue, I found this solution

Now I have the problem of my xbox 360 controller not working at all in game, though steam detects it. I'm just so happy to have the game working at all, I'll probably get annoyed with the controller issue later though.
