I hate G-Sync

...is the overwhelming message I'm getting from you guys. But I don't understand all the hate?

 

 

 

 

When I first started looking into computer terminology (:? finding out that I couldn't download ram for starters; I'm reaally new to this!) I felt some anger in posts surrounding the "gsync" question...

 

 

 

 

 

From what I've read, these monitors are supreme and they're not just better by a margin: they're the beast. Free-Sync monitors are riddled with lag, low quality and the net is ->full<- of fakes that are indistinguishable from the real deal...!

Most people here are kids, and don't have the money to buy GSync monitors so they hate them.

I'd prefer a GSync monitor, they have much better response ranges. Often from 0 - 144, not like the 30+ - 144 that a FreeSync monitor might have.

Second, there's no proof of the statements you've made. Even Nvidia adopted freesync with their "gsync compatible" program

I have a G-Sync monitor, can confirm them to be rather dank, even though I'm the type of idiot who moved from an Nvidia GPU to an AMD one and can't use G-Sync any more . Does noticeably help with fps drops, though mine is a 1st gen (one fo the first 2 monitors that came out with G-Sync IIRC, I got it off a cousin who got it because it was the cheapest one while still performing well) so IDK how good the range is.

Gsync got (past tense yes) because people get sad when their Nvidia card cant use Freesync while Gsync cost too much. This has changed since Pascal GPUs can use Freesync with DP

I wouldn't really say it's too expensive. I'd gladly pay the extra to have the added range that GSync provides. It's more feature rich compared to FreeSync.

They can work* with FreeSync. Very important to put an asterisks, because they don't always, and when they fail, it's a pretty piss poor experience.

Gsync atm is just kinda pointless and proprietary, unlike adaptive sync which even Nvidia embraced back in january.

NVIDIA adopted FreeSync after a lot of consumer demand, they sure as heck didn't adopt it immediately like they could have.

 

GSync serves its purpose in a premium segment, but the fact that NVIDIA kept pushing it rather than the free alternative is what got people upset. I see why they did it, it'd be incredibly hard to market a premium feature like GSync in a situation where you get a theoretically similar product for a lot cheaper, but I don't agree with it.

Radeon VII, I just like tinkering with Vega cards. I went from a 980 Ti to a 1080, to 2 1080s, to a Vega FE for a bit, then a 1080 Ti. Got my RVII at launch (literally the next day due to the power of overnight shipping), it's kinda special to me. Ended up trading the 1080 Ti to a friend for a 1660 Ti + cash since I wasn't using the 1080 Ti, and kinda felt bad having a beefy Gaming X lad just sitting around doing nothing. The 1660 Ti worked out well, it's in my folding rig now and is excellent for that. Second only to the 2060 in PPD/$ and very low power draw (pulls the same points my $699 200-300W eating RVII does, sometimes pulls more).

Ahhh yes. That card seems rather beastly. Time to invest in a FreeSync monitor?

There's loads that go cheap on eBay all the time. Personally I'm looking at getting a Viotek 30" 21:9 with FreeSync.

May replace this with another G-Sync monitor if I can save the mons tbh. I want to get a 5960X for this current rig, then a 2080 Ti and block along with a 1440p high refresh rate monitor for when Cyberpunk 2077 comes out (looks to be an amazing RPG, I like those, and it's fuckin gorgeous and will hopefully use raytracing to further that). Will move the Radeon VII either onto my EVGA Micro2 with the 5820K I have now, or go fucking insane and stuff my SR-2 inside a PowerMac G5 case, put the RVII on that, and watercool the whole thing because I have the VRM blocks for the SR-2 so I need to do that at some point in time.

Haha, I'm planning to build a new rig for Cyberpunk as well. First, new rig this year for CoD. Then a new one next year for CyberPunk.

I wish I could justify needing 2 PCs, but I just...can't.

Same, I usually have 2-3 PCs built but like... I can only use one at a time. F@H has thankfully given one of mine purpose, the other rig put together is my main gaming rig. I've had more in the past but I didn't really use them, that's why I've given away a couple and sold/traded some others. I'd love to collect hardware but I feel bad just having it sit around. 

And mmmmm that CoD though, I've never been a CoD guy but goddamn does it look amazing, will probably pick it up unless they do something really stupid with it.

I wanted to build a f@h PC actually. Add some more badges to my title. Does it need a powerful CPU, or GPU?

 

They have loot boxes. But I imagine they're mostly cosmetic, or at most, with operators. People are already complaining. I don't see the issue. It's just cosmetic stuff, you don't need it, and even if they throw the operators in there, it doesn't affect the gameplay.

GPUs, CPU folding does basiclally nothing. The RTX 2060 is the best PPD/$ card that exists right now, if you need to save money then the 1660 Ti is a very close second at a lower price. Vega cards, despite their compute horsepower, are basically garbo for F@H workloads.

i hate Gsync on my laptop, have an Alienware 17R4 i got for cheap though my company, really did not want an alienware, but a cheap laptop with a high refresh rate 1440p panel, 1070OC and 16gig of ram and a 8750h is okay..

 

the main problem is, it has a GIANT battery, that should last for 10 hours, but because of the fucking G-sync, it runs dead for 2 hours, since you cannot run on the onboard, you have to accept the NVidia 1070...

 

i could even accept being able to disable the nvidia card in the bios, when i just want to use it as a surf machine, but.. NOPE.. it cannot be disable, AT ALL... for me G-sync in a laptop is really a no go, if it disables possibility of running onboad for power saving.

Hmmm good to know. I'll probably aim for a 1660Ti since I don't want to invest too much into it.
We'll see what comes about when it comes time to sell the build I'm doing now to build the uber build for CyberPunk.
