Ryzen 5 3600 vs 3900X

So i watched this video from buildzoid where he says that an overclocked 3600 will preform just as much as a 3900x in gaming, is that true in anyway or form? it's kind of confusing to me since i didn't know someone can overclock the 3600 to the point where it levels with the 3900x

In most games yea. The gap becomes extremely small since the ckockspeed difference ends up at 100-200MHz and most games so far are okay on a 6-core, 12-thread CPU. The 3900X is a workstation CPU.

Generally correct. Don't expect to be able to overclock the 3600 very much though. It's no intel chip.

Yes. You don't need the cores the 3900x has if you're just gaming.

It is more of a future proof type of thing once you go to 3900 and what not.

It's really not. 

No one knows what will be needed in the future, so future proofing anything doesn't make any sense.

If you will only absolutely play games and nothing more than you have two ways to go, either the i9 9900K for the longevity it represents in gaming over Ryzen because Ring Bus is still going to matter regardless how much games uses more threads.

 

Or then just grab the R5 3600 which will indeed play about the same as the R9 3900X *today* and only upgrade *after* the PS5 launches when games will truly start looking at that octacore configuration much closely to what PC does pushing the standards..
