I have a friend looking to get into making her own YouTube videos, and I was wondering which program is generally seen as the best?

Her videos will start off as more Vlog style, but she wants to eventually move into gaming.

I've read into it a bit, and I've come up with the following options:

  • Adobe Premier Pro - $21/mo
  • Sony Vegas Pro - $11/mo
  • Davinci Resolve - $299
  • Pinnacle Studio Ultimate - $99
  • Filmora9 - $10/mo

What are your guys thoughts?

Am I missing any options? Not really interested in Final Cut Pro, as I don't want to go through the hassle of making a Hackintosh build.

She has no experience with any of the programs, so she'll be starting from scratch. Ideally, there's a Linda tutorial or something...so consider that a bonus point for any of the options.

I've heard for gaming videos especially, if she likes the idea of adding subtitles for comedic effect, Premier is the best solution. Otherwise, I see people get away with using Vegas Pro, but I've never seen somebody argue for DaVinci Resolve outside of it having a capable free version.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Yeah, the main advantage of Vegas Pro was the fact that it's 1/3 the price of Adobe...it's actually $31/mo for Adobe month to month.

The gaming videos will come later, I think she's going to start with vlog style and beauty videos to start, but the subtitles might still come into play with those.

For Youtube, you could work just fine with Sony Movie Studio Platinum or higher... right now Movie Studio Platinum is 60$ : https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-movie-studio/product-comparison/#productMenu

The Platinum version has video tracking, stabilization, support for HEVC and more than 10 video tracks in timeline, which can be useful for editing youtube videos.

It's a one time 60$ purchase, and you can do upgrades when new versions show up.

I personally bought Vegas Pro Edit 14 (i think it was 14) on Humble Bundle deal ... it's still usable. The 17 Edit is 400$ one time purchase but you can probably get better deals from time to time.

Vegas 16 Pro Edit is 250$ on Amazon (retail dvd box) and 16 Pro is 300$ ... and there's not many differences between the versions.
