AMD GPUs encoding/decoding limit?

WereCatf

Do AMD GPUs have a limit on the number of simultaneous encodes or decodes? NVIDIA does have a 2-job limit on encoding with consumer-hardware, but e.g. Intel doesn't have any such and the only limits come simply from the physical amount of resources the iGPU has.

dont think theres a limit. Just keep opening video files and see how many videos can run at a single time I think you'll run out of screen real estate before you hit the limit

I think the limit is 16 simultaneous streams but when it comes to encoding, you have additional limitations

See https://github.com/obsproject/obs-amd-encoder/wiki/Hardware-Support#AVCSVC_H264-6

Scroll down all the way to the bottom ... VCE 3.4 is used on RX 4xxx and higher, VCE 4.0 is used on Vega

For encoding you have here the maximum fps depending on quality profile you choose :

VCE 3.4 : https://github.com/obsproject/obs-amd-encoder/wiki/Hardware-VCE3.4

Values for RX 480 (should be about the same for RX 570 / RX 580 etc)
