Help me decide which laptop to buy.

I'm planning to buy one of these two laptop, but I'm not sure which one should I go with. Price difference is roughly $500(local currency), with Lenovo y540 being the cheaper of the two. The specs of both laptop are as follows:

Lenovo Y540

Go for Lenovo. Acer has crappy QC and quality of laptops itself.

Purify your Windows 10/11, don't give Microsoft anything that you don't want to share.

Ye, I had bad experience with Acer laptops myself. But I heard nothing but high praise for Helios 300, don't mind giving them a second chance.

I had. From Glenn over SpectreSoundStudios (yes, another youtuber). Their quality is still subpar at best... As bang for the buck they're not bad, yes... But only that...

Both are decent but there might be other good options as well

Consumer grade QC is pretty much the same for all brands

Are you from Malaysia? Budget? Usage? No preference on weight and battery life?

Ay, am a fellow Malaysia as well. Budget is anything below rm5000, usage is mostly for gaming + for study. Weight and battery doesn't really bothers me.

I have my eyes on these two laptop for quite some time, all that's left is to pick one of the two.

One more thing to note is that the Lenovo laptop is imported, hence only a six month local supplier warranty.

Well, Helios can provide better gaming experience thanks to better GPU and 144 Hz display. But Lenovo will look more official, if that is needed (+ quality is better, too).

CPU shouldn't play the biggest role unless you do some research that can't be offloaded to GPU (then definetely go for Lenovo).

Acer warranty service is crap, too, so it's a tie here with warranty.

I'm an IT student myself, so for work stuff I mostly use my laptop for programming exclusively, so an i5 wouldn't bother me much. What I'm more concerned is whether the i5 9300h that comes with Helios 300 will bottleneck the rtx 2060.

It won't. You shouldn't worry about that for sure.

If programming for CUDA stuff, that really doesn't matter. Though, i7 might give a noticeable bump in speed of compiing process with things like IncrediBuild in VS and Maven or CMAKE in Linux (aka those workloads that benefit from multithreading).

Why get imported Y540 lol. Can customize Y540 / Y7000 SE online, can apply 15% student discount too. Or buy Y540 81SX004WMJ online

Also consider these:

Level51 Forge 15 Pro

Lenovo Legion Y540 17 customize (15% student discount)

Commandos Carbine Evo 6 Plus

Commandos Glock 5 Plus (RM3999+)

1660Ti/2060 would be good
