2060 , 2060 super or 5700xt?

jirehbobs

Hi!

Im on the verge of updating my GPU from a MSI gtx 1060 gaming x to either a Zotac RTX 2060 amp! or MSI RTX 2060 super ventus oc (almost $100 more expensive here in the Philippines).

https://www.newegg.com/global/ph-en/zotac-geforce-rtx-2060-zt-t20600d-10m/p/N82E16814500457

https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-rtx-2060-super-rtx-2060-super-ventus-oc/p/N82E16814137437

Now the question is, which of the 2 gpu's will be enough for my needs? I mainly game Rainbow Six Siege competitively, with some apex legends here and there on 144fps and I also stream my games almost everytime. As of right now, I downscale my stream to 720p with bilinear scaling in OBS which makes the stream quality somewhat bearable but not that great. My goal is to play on a stable 144fps while streaming 1080p with decent settings in OBS.

I should point out that I don't care much about all the in game eye candy (ultra settings and whatnot). I game on competitive settings in R6 anyways, hence the need for FXAA so I can see the enemies better. And I cant stress this enough, 144fps STABLE, while streaming is all I want.

So again, TO SUPER OR NOT TO SUPER?

Hoping to get some insights from you guys.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Edit: Navi hasn't come out yet her in our country but I will consider it once it does.

Yeah but nvenc is better for streaming than amd's hardware encoder. As much of an amd fan that i am i can still say that nvidia is better for streaming and recording with hardware encoding.

I don' think navi is even out yet here in the Philippines. I have considered going amd though, or waiting for navi to come here then check the prices once it comes out.

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't  done enough research on navi :). I guess that's what I'll do now.

Exactly why I considered RTX outright. Again, the main goal is to maintain a stable 144fps  while gaming rainbow six siege while streaming a better quality 1080p. I mean if a 2060 amp! can achieve that then that would save me $100 which is great.

For streaming a rtx indeed is better but i still would go for a rx 5700 xt even with streaming it still would prf better just the stream would look a bit worse but trust me as a twitch streamer with 16k nobody cares as long as it does not look like a full mess haha

iirc streaming with hardware encoding tacks up a couple gigs of vram (not too sure as i use x264 for streaming) and if thats the case then the super might be the better option with 8gb of vram.

True lol. I think people actually prefer 720p so people with slower internet can watch the stream.

Yeah I guess I could just get the SUPER version. But achieving my goal while saving a couple of bucks would be great though. :)

So I guess I have to rephrase my question. What bang for the buck GPU can give me a 144fps stable R6 gaming while 1080p streaming?

Thanks!

I game at 1080p right now and downscale the stream to 720p with bilinear scaling which is kinda blurry if you ask me. I can't even do FXAA in game cause again, 1060 :(.

Now that I know 5700 xt is more than enough, will a 2060 be enough? Or should I go with the SUPER?

It would be great if a fellow r6 streamer can chime in here too. :)

Do you need to stream 1080p?  Do you have the viewer base?  Is it really worth spending the money to stream your gameplay?  Why not save money or just use that meny for a better experience for YOU?

It's almost like every other topic posted is to spend more money to "stream" gameplay.  I can't grasp the concept of wanting to show or watch gameplay, but it has to be the best thing to hit the GPU market in a decade.  So much money spent, it's interesting.

the rtx series cards have a better nvenc, the 2060 super has a very big increase over the regular 2060. the price is a bit less fun but it does give you more memory also. the 5700xt is a great card. its about 5-8% slower than a 2070 super at 100 less. but it will suck at what you want to do. Yeah people may say that they don't care about the quality but trust me.. i game at 1440p. and watch things at this res. going back to 720p is just a big nono to my eyes. if you want more followers you really need the eye candy xD

But if you want my brutally honest opinion.. wait a month save up and get a 2070 or the cheapest 2070 super you can find. it will really get you that 144hz that you so desire.

I dont think its worth it, but like many things in life, i dont think it needs to be. Personally, I barely have any viewers and still love to stream. Its just a hobby i think.

Hi!

Good question. Right now I only have a couple of viewers here and there, nothing big like @xhackforeverxdx. But my goal is to build my channel, hence the interest in investing for a better GPU. But again, I'm looking to achieve that goal while not overspending at the same time.

With my current 1060, I AM ABLE to get a stable 144hz, albeit sacrificing in game AA which sometimes makes the game blurry for me. (I am a semi pro R6 player here in the Philippines so blurry graphics is somewhat a big deal for me).

The reason for the upgrade is so that I can crank up R6 Anti Aliasing in game, while streaming at a better quality. I think the 2070 or 2070 super will be overkill for that. And I'm not sure if spending that much more will be worth it. Hence the 2060 or 2060 super options, and I guess now I am considering NAVI.

Thank you for that advice @xhackforeverxdx. I will definitely keep that in mind. By the way you can give me your twitch channel and I'll definitely give it a follow.

There is no thing like overkill when you desire to crank up the AA. a 2070 non super card isnt much more expansive than the 2060 super but still has all the good stuff that you need.

But i highly recommend you don't go for navi. nvidia is just wayyyyy better than amd when it comes to streaming. and as you said. you want to stream. and are a streamer.  the best card suited for you is the rtx line-up. Raw fps performance is great and all.. but if you can match that with the hardware that will make your streams better its always the better buy. which in this case is either the 2060 super, the 2070 or 2070 super.

I dont think its worth it, but like many things in life, i dont think it needs to be. Personally, I barely have any viewers and still love to stream. Its just a hobby i think.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :) Cheers friend!

I see. Thanks for the input. :)

Thank you for that advice @xhackforeverxdx. I will definitely keep that in mind. By the way you can give me your twitch channel and I'll definitely give it a follow.

Its the same Name as my Profil here :D but i am a german streamer and i am taking a break from streaming right now ^^
