Hey guys and girls, I’m trying to open a gaming cafe in my area and am looking for general ideas for how it should be and the general feel of the space. A few goals that I have are to jump start esports in my area and in schools (fairly urban) and to support the community coming together at one place. All help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know many gaming cafes fail due to low traffic, and I don’t want that to happen, so I am asking for innovative ideas on how to keep high traffic.

I'm sure you already know this, but my thoughts on LAN cafes when it comes to the USA is that EVERYONE and their second cousin's cat has their own PC. They are so successful in foreign countries because not everyone has a PC, and if they do it usually isnt good for games. 

 

Sure, there are a lot of people that play PC, but at least when I was in high school, mostly everyone played console. 

 

LAN parties? Why PAY SOMEONE to play a game with your friends when you could sit at home and do it for free. Why pay someone when you could go into your friend's basement and hook up 5 PCs?

 

How far along are you in this process?

The idea makes me cringe. Having to adjust the monitor, chair, and other settings not saved in a profile for you. Plus people’s nasty hand slime is all over the mouse and keyboard and dandruff lice filled headphones. Nah I’ll invest $20 and get my own

You need a heavy focus on VR if you want to be profitable, otherwise between everyone already having a console or PC, there's not much people can't do at home.

I don't see why OP's idea is "bad". Not everyone has a gaming PC and a small-scale PC cafe can definitely work. Parents are especially going to like the fact that they don't need to cash up hundreds of dollars for a gaming PC. Add to the fact that many games are PC-only and PCs give you better performance.

 

My opinion is that you should focus on either high end gaming (for console users and budget gamers) or mid-range entry level gaming (for little timmy who just turned 12 and plays fortnite on his dell inspiron). You can go for a general all-around gaming cafe but then it would be a big investment.
