Looking to buy a new monitor, need advice!

Hi all,

I'm looking at monitors atm but not really sure what to get, my PC specs below:

Ryzen 5 2600x

16gb RAM

1gb SSD

1070ti GPU

 

Not sure what to get honestly, I'll spend whatever money not really bothered about how much (probably less than £500 is ideal) but want whatever will get best out of my hardware, I play competitive games and currently enjoy an IPS display (I like the viewing angles but hate the ghosting), I am thinking something like 1080p, 144hz, gsync, but honestly I'm a noobie when it comes to monitors so not really sure what would be ideal for my situation.

Your budget allows for 1440p high refresh, go with that (even if it's VA).

 

Look at some HardwareUnboxed videos, Tim specializes in monitors and laptops while Steve does what goes into the tower.

It sounds like they want to play competitive games so a VA panel would just be asking to have a bad time.

I would go for a 1080p 240hz if you want high refresh rate 1080p monitor with gsync because 1080p 144hz with gsync are hard to find. Granted you could get a 144hz freesync monitor that does freesync over displayport and you should be able to make use of that.

What do you all think about 1440p?, Is it worth it? Is it noticeable at 24 inch?, I want to keep my other IPS monitor as 2nd monitor so it's important I get another 24 inch!!!

At 24inch it's going to be harder to tell. Honestly there aren't many good 24 inch 1440p displays to begin with.

1440p under 27" will help you lose your eyesight. Not healthy.
